yeah, i agree but i dont advise using it all the time because you'll be addicted to it and cant stop using it even on those very fast songs.

I still use speed mods when i do Sakura, TLOM, and PS1.Are you good at hiding your feelings?

As for less-accomplishments go, I finally got my second AAA, on Let's Groove. The cool thing about it was I was practicing a routine and not even looking at the screen while doing it. Hoorah.

Hello, new to the site.

I just started beating Catas in the last few weeks. On Max2, I can beat all of the 8-footers but MaxX Unlimited standard (and I am CLOSE), and I can beat all of the catas but Afronova (I am CLOSE) and So Deep (not nearly as close...). Tsugaru is my best cata, as I can B it. Well, that does not count Paranoia KCET which is so not a cata (it was re-rated, for those that don't know, from 8).

Currently, I am working on perfecting my turning and the more chaotic of gallops (like in Kakumei heavy). As far as turning goes, I'm not planning on going 360 anytime soon. The song I am playing around with is Breakdown. I can do the song without turning, but it is incredibly draining. I've almost got the footing w/ turns down, and I expect to get an extremely good rating in Breakdown when I get turning down completely. Same goes for Afronova. It is fun figuring this stuff out. That must be why DDR is considered a puzzle game.

To you players on Beginner or Basic/Light: I was where you all are around 2 1/2 months ago. I looked at things like Tsugaru heavy and said "I am NEVER going to be able to do THAT!" But slowly it comes. Just keep at it!

MaxX Unlimited Standard is hard as hell. It's much harder then LOM standard (which is a 9). Good luck with it, it's tough = /.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it is as "hard as hell." You've got some streams, some intermediate level freezes, and some other little nuances. Since I was a little addicted to speed mods for a while, my eyes really have no problems following this stuff at 1x (obviously, Heavy is a different story...). 10 or so measures after the full stop, the insane air begins. That is where I tend to lose. To be slightly more specific, I lose somewhere between measure 87 and 115. Once I have these measures down, the song is mine.

I'm getting closer on So Deep, too. I repeatedly got an A in training with music speed at 3. Just two more speeds to work through. I think that it is just the amount of stamina the song takes that makes it hard. The steps are not hard as long as you can gallop and follow a melody rather than the beat. The hard part is that it just keeps going without rest through 498 steps in not much more than 90 seconds. Well, the other hard part is the cluttering, but I figure that I'll be able to take away the 1.5x mod once I have the song down.

I've been starting to play on Heavy and have been noticing that the steps aren't as hard as I imagined, but stamina is something very much required, without a lot of jumping and eighth step combos or what not.

Does anyone have any tips for reading 16 steps? I'm a musician and should be able to, but I just can't get the hang of them, maybe I should slow down the music?

Couple suggestions.

1. Training mode, set the speed to 4 (or lower if needed) and work your way through the song at a slower speed (5 is normal speed).

2. Speed mods. If the song is a slower one, play it at 2x, which will spread the notes out a bit to make them easier to read.

Also, look at it in Training mode (use the starting bar to move through the song). Once you know what the steps are (and possibly plan out a footing), reading those fast notes can be easier.

If you are misreading them as air, use the Solo mod. In solo, steps kind of alternate colors rather than have colors based on their position around the beat.

Are the 16th notes gallops, by chance? Those are handled differently. In learning gallops (like in Tsugaru or Burning Heat), I had to slow it down all the way to 1 on music speed to understand what was going on. Now they are almost second nature.

Otherwise, like abrannan said, speed mods will help you if cluttering is the problem (like on Secret Rendez-vous).

Well, of course MaxX isn't hard as hell, but it is hard as hell for a standard 8 footer.

The problem people have with the song are obviously the fast jumps at the end, and the weird freeze jumps at the beginning. The rest is just a easy speedy song.

If you are having significant trouble with it, try the ending of LOM sta to get better at the fast jumps, or try bar raping if you don't already.

Well jumps wear me out badly, especially on MaxX Unlimited for some reason more than others... on Light. So the other day I tried MaxX Unlimited on Standard and got a D on it my first try, but can't pass MaxX Unlimited on Light...
