Ok, this is bothering me lately. What with all the cool movies that have been coming out, and that are coming out soon, I have been going pretty much every week. But the thing is, the food is terrible. They sell bags of candy with like 1400 calories in it, total, and people just down these suckers in one sitting.. it's bad enough they charge $4 for a pack of twizzlers. I have been sneaking in food, because the healthiest thing they have is twizzlers - 40 cal each stick thingy! I can't seem to find out how many calories is in their popcorn if you don't add extra butter.. they never have that info at the theater. I have been buying a diet coke, no ice, and I either bring a "goodie" bag of carefully portioned out candies equaling 250 calories or less.. this is like, 8 junior mints + 1/8 cup raisinettes + 4 sugar-free gummy worms. Or I bring in a Slim Fast candy bar. I mean, what are people supposed to eat there if they actually care about calories? So, what do you all do when you go to the theater?

AH i feel you. Just saw Dodgeball last night( it was great btw) and hadn't had dinner yet. Everything was horrible. Of course my friends were gulfing down popcorn and sugar sodas. I held strong though with my diet coke. I wish theyd just have something like rasins(without chocolate)

Raisins would be good. They claim they don't have fruits like that because they have strong odors that bother people, and they make crunching sounds (like apples) - which is total nonsense! I can smell movie popcorn from the other side of the mall, and nachos aren't exactly the quietest food!
Yeah, I might bring raisins with me next time.. sounds good!

I see these people at the theaters stuffing there faces with all that crap... It's so funny.. It's as if they've never eaten before..
I suggest eating before you even enter the movie theater.. If I can't seem to eat before hand (Which would be highly unusual seeing that we live in the United States) I would carry some crushed rice cakes.. It's crunchy so you get that popcorn affect and you won't feel guilty afterwards.. If I absolutely need to drink some kind of soda... I opt for the Diet coke with Lime (I would actually buy that at a store, not the theater)..
Consuming "3000" calories in one sitting is just terrible, horrible even.. I think we have this problem because the food looks so tempting.. The funny thing is... Before they pile on all that butter, You really have to question whether or not it was healthy to begin with. As if going to the movies was a go ahead to eat till our hearts content of junk food.. I mean come on, we're only going to watch a movie.. Opting to bring your own food is a great start.. Maybe if everyone did this... The movie theaters would consider adding a more healthy selection to the mix.

Truth is, they don't have raisins because they, unlike the candy they have, can go bad. The candy can sit there for years.

I usually dont buy anything there. I just sneak in a water. If you are starving, just wait. You will not think about it when the movie starts. I just saw Spiderman 2 and I was starving before it, then I didnt buy anything and forgot about it during the show.

I can't believe people can afford to eat movie snacks. That stuff is sooooo expensive. Where i live movies are getting to be $10 or more and the candy is like $3 for a normal pack of M&Ms.

Try not eating for 2 hours in your life. Get some water before you go in and drink that.

America is really bad with that type of thing. They say that we are the only place where you can go anywhere and be confronted by food. Just sneak in your own snacks if you feel you must have them. They dont care.

I think its GREAT that you are aware of the BIGGIE sizing the movies do..buy more for just a few cents extra and you will get larger portions..they make more money and everyone is happy..EXCEPT OUR FAT BUTTS FROM EATING THIS FOOD!
I dont blame you for sneaking in snacks..a shame that you have too.
Though Slimfast is not on my list of health foods, you could do worse.
I only got to a movie once a year or so..so then I will usually will buy a small popcorn (and share it) . Popcorn is a good for you food but when its popped in the theater its questionable because of the oils they use and what they put on it.

BTW twizzlers though fat free are really fakey arent they ? Not a real food at all?
How about a mini bag with little carrots, some peanuts, if you want something crunchie Kashi Golean crunch is tasty.
You could take in your own popcorn if you go alot..I am sure they dont like it..but do they have a rule against it?..
Water instead of the diet coke which makes you crave junk due to the artificial sugars.
I am not sure whats behind the counters for sale as I rarely go.

Thats sad when they offer such garbage. Next time I go I will look and see what they offer..however it may be awhile as I saw Spiderman about a month ago so I am not due to go for another year!

Wow... how about you just not eat the food there, that simple. It's not that hard to resist the things you desire most [except for DDR ] By the way, don't go see Alien Versus Predator, it has got to be one of the most mainstream-appealing rule-breaking awfully horrendous movies I've ever had the misfortune of laying my dignity upon... you'll know if you're a fan of previous Alien and Predator efforts. Sorry about the off-topic banter.

I ALWAYS sneak in my own food to the movie theaters. I have a special "movie purse" that I use for the occasion. I pop my 94% Fat-Free popcorn at home and bring in the bag and healthy treats with me. I get a drink at the concession stand so that I feel like I got a "treat" at the movies.
Every movie place has a sign that says, "No outside food or beverages," but I have never been stopped. I have walked in with drinks from other places. I have walked in with food from the food court at the mall. I have taken NO pains to hide the outside food and I have never been stopped. The reason is because movie theaters pay their employees crap. They are tired and angry at their employer, so they really don't care one wit whether you bring in your own food.

my friends and I actually had a pizza delevered to the movie theater once. (it had the theater number on the exits down by the screen and we told them to call our cell phone when they got there) none of the people working there care, well maybe the managers, but the kids working there dont care because they know I could beat them unmercifull. (i wouldnt really do that though )

I've never really liked chewing on stuff at the movies. I get the mega bottle of water, and that's just about it.
Been this way for years.
Well, there is an exception. My favorite way to see the movies is by a theater here in Austin who sets up an inflatable screen and run small outdoor movie marathons. They don't discourage people from bringing their own food to these, but they also set up grills to get something hot. When movies run from sundown to sunup, you need something to keep your energy for the drive home. Thankfully they do sell veggie burgers. (I'm not vegetarian and never will be, but have no problem with vegetarian alternatives to otherwise geasy foods.)
But just to see a flick on Friday night, I just get the water.

Trust me, I've seen The Phantom of the Opera enough times to figure out how to sneak in some yummy, yet healthy snacks.
I take my bigger purse, or even a messanger back with me. In plastic bags I put in trail mix with nuts, raisins, and other dried fruit. I also put Soy Crisps in a plastic bag, or even some air-popped popcorn with flax seed oil instead of butter.
