i got DDR Max 2 the other day and a nokia dance pad. i got home that day at 12:00 midnight. i had played DDR at an arcade but have watch them play for a long time, anyway i played for 2hours or so and i was hooked. i played the next day for at least 8 or 10 hours taking only short breaks inbetween.even though my leg was cramping up and was sore, i went on i was dripping with sweat i got from begginer to light in that day. This makes me wish i had discoverd DDR earlier. The reason i decided to buy it was every year we go to cruisin the coast every year in bolioxi, MS (i live in S. AL) and we go to the casino and stay for a couple of hours, im too young to gamble(14 about 15) so i stay in the arcade. well everyone is gathered around the chicks playing DDR and they are hot too and somtimes dudes that are real good (not sayin if theyre hot cause that aint right) and everyone admired them. I wanted to be the dude with the large crowd around me whoopin everyones ass. Which brings me to my point, if you are thinkin about buyin DDR,SEIRIOSLY CONSIDER IT!!!!PLAY IT AT AN ARCADE FIRST CAUSE EVERTHING IS A GOOD 60 BUCKS AND FOR MKE THATS A LOT AND MAKE SURE YOUR HOOKED BEFORE YOU BUY IT. That is what i want to say to people who are thinkin about gettin it. And as for you more experinced people, share youre wisdom and pracice strategies to those who are like me and have the same motivation to play as i do (besisdes being adored by the chicks but that can be a factor) and help spread this craze. ask your local arcade to buy a DDR machine or wear a ddr t-shirt or do the best thing possible, show them how its done at yure local arcade who you talked into buyin a ddr machine and let everyone see it. i dont know wut all this has to do with sharing tips and secrets about ddr. please get this thread rollin and people posting

If you have the money and you absolutely love to DDR any moment that you can, buy the home versions and pads. I play it a LOT. The amount of times I've played it makes up for the cost of the games and metal pad. If you're a big DDR fan like I am, you're better off buy the home versions. You can practice at home whenever you want and for as long as you can. Then, go to the arcade and show off anything that you might have come up with. (I've come up with zero freestyle moves, but hey, it's a suggestion.)
Tips for the beginner DDR players from my experience (maybe it will work for you, maybe it won't, just don't get discouraged). Well, I started on DDR Max's workout mode with the 1 star setting. After a while, I started to get bored and ventured into the 2 star setting. Then after a bit of that, I got Konamix. I braved the 3 star setting of workout mode and limited myself to the slower easier songs. Then I just once in a while tried something faster and harder.
Then Light mode game mode. One thing I noticed was I was so scared to try something harder. Then one day, I tried something hard, and ended up being better than I thought. One thing, if anything, that you should learn from me is never give up. If you find yourself unable to progress, stay with the songs you can do until you're capable of continuing on to something harder. That's what I've done and thought since then and now I'm at the 8 footer level getting into 9 footers. If you try and don't give up, you will get better.

yeah, I agree with you both, you could end up paying the price of a playstation 2 just to get really good at DDR in the arcade, this just saves you from the public embarrassment until you get good, plus you lose weight

hey, i been playing ddr for about a year now. i play at teh arcade all the time, for botu 4 to 6 hours straight. ive had my share of crowds. i consider myself good, not great, but good. anyway the msot basic tip for newbies is this.....YOU HAVE TWO FEET. most newbs i see are usualy one stepping songs and then tripping up when they hit a step the require a sif type of step. and alo dnt return yur foot to teh center, ever, leave it on the arrow u last stepped on.anyway also, if anyone who read this post live in tampa, then email me at skyhawk546@aol.com

that and don't return your feet to the middle everytime... I personally enjoy struggling through a begginner song and then kicking into Heavy mode and playing Paranoia Survivor and getting a B or A.

Well, as it's already been mentioned previously in this topic, one of the only things I can suggest is to use both feet and not bring them back to the middle. Also, don't be afraid to move with your body and 'feel' the beat. Don't be embaressed, because atleast you're doing something.
Off topic, when I first got DDR Max 2 I picked right up at light mode, and for about a day got C's and B's, but the next day I was consistantly earning A's. It's been a month now since I've had it, and I can get AA's on Light mode with ease, and even one AAA. Just recently I started playind Standard consistantly and getting good grades, all I can say is that when you think a mode / skill level is going to be too tough, just try it anyway.
