I feel a lot of pressure and aching in my knees now during jumps. Does it go away when I start getting used to exercising? Will it cause long-term damage?

can you define your pain a bit more? is it sharp or does it feel more like muscle strain? also how are you landing from you jumps? are you bending your knees or are you landing streight leged? try to keep you knees bent slightly and dont lock them espically when doing jumps, esentially they are your shock absorbers but they cant work if they are locked streight. if the pain is sharp and or shooting (moving around the knee) or more than moderatly sore I would recomend seeing a doctor about it, you may have weak knees and require a brace for a while untill you strenghten them up.
when I started playing my knees got sore to, it was more like a dull throb than anything though, I got it in the back of my knee as well as right under the knee cap. it went away like the shin splints when I kept working the muscles.
anyways that all I have for ya on this. remember your the best judge of your own body, if it worrys you go see the doctor, thats what they are there for.
best wishes.

Talon, the pain is pretty similar to what you described, a dull throb, also in the back of the knee. It's not a sharp pain, and it hurts the worst when I'm just starting out. I play a few slower songs to warm up before moving on to the faster songs with lots of jumps like Butterfly, and by then, it's not too bad. Once I'm done, I feel the dull ache for a little while after the workout. I land with knees bent, but I'm not very good yet at doing lots of steps with different kinds of jumps in quick succession. I think that's what wipes me out.
I haven't played at all today and my knees don't hurt right now. I have a checkup with our new doctor coming up, so I can bring it up with her if my knees are still bothering me by then. Thanks for the advice! I'm sure it's because I'm not used to all this activity, but I don't want to be doing it wrong and hurt myself.
