I've been playing Stepmania on beginner level and managed to ace the songs. Now I'm trying for standard level, but some songs have half or quarter steps and I have no idea how to manage them. I'm incredibly tone deaf and can't seem to hear the rhytym between the beats. I know is takes practice, but I can't even get the steps. Any advice?

Um, you skipped from Beginner to Standard???
I don't know what kind of steps you're reffering to, but if you're reffering to 1/8th notes, they go right in between 1/4th notes exactly.

Well here's some advice for half or 1/8th notes...if that is what you're talking about
For beginner it's all 4th or whole notes right? So just for practice sake lets say you have like 6 left arrows in a row. All a half or 8th note is, is a step inbetween them. So while you're stepping with that consistent beat on the 6 left arrows, try to step like...on a down arrow inbetween those notes so that your feet go like...123, just try stepping inbetween them. IF you're using stepmania you can slow down the rate of the song by holding down...enter? when you select it, and you can practice that way. But i think you should try light mode, it helps!

And if you count in your head, if you have a song in 4/4 time, count "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8," the even numbers will be the 1/8th steps.
