Hi all- I'm brand new to the site and also to DDR. My husband and I just bought one yesterday and have been playing quite a bit.
I hope to lose about 35-40 pounds playing regularly, as I HATE to exercise/go to the gym/run, etc. This is so much more fun and easy to "lose yourself" doing.
Here's my problem: In 2000, I broke my left ankle and have several plates and many pins sugically implanted. If I use it alot, it gets sore and stiff. Does anyone else out there have any "bionics" like me, and if so has it affected your dancing? I'm a bit sore today, but i hope it will go away. Any feedback will be appreciated, and any tips on how to get better ('cause I'm LAUGHABLE) will help! Thanks to all, and what a great, encouraging site! -Dallas

Welcome! First off, don't worry, EVERYONE is lousy at first, and nobody ever thinks they'll get off of beginner/light mode. Just stick with it, and in time, it'll all click and you'll hit a quantum jump in improvement. Just remember that we're all here with advice and encouragement whenever you need us.
As for your ankle, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but it wouldn't hurt to check with your doctor about anything you should be careful about when doing exercise with a lot of lateral movement. I'd hate to see you roll your ankle while playing, and undo a lot of the progress you've made over the past 5 years.

Thanks abrannon- good idea. As it is I have normal soreness, but I'm getting lots better (playing for 5-6 hours MAY have something to do with it!)
LOVE these boards!

lol wow you have a lot of zeal. I wouldn't have been able to play for five or six hours ever, even when I'd just gotten it. Keep up the good work O.O. Edit: And ditto what abrannan said on going to see your doctor. It would totally suck if you broke your bionic ankle and had to have everything redone, or hurt yourself furtherly . But ... bionic ankle = COOL. Do you make metal detectors go off by going through them? My sister had an (ex) boyfriend once who had a metal plate in his hip, and every time we went to the local theme park, he would make the detectors go off and they made him empty out all of his pockets because they never quite believed that he had a metal hip lol. And, welcome to the boards!

Hi NGTS, thanks for the welcome! I've played and played for the past 2 days. Granted it's on the easy easy songs, but I can tell an improvement in such a short time, which is great because it's so satisfying. I used to mountain bike like crazy-- I was the only girl the guys would let ride with them, and we would average 75-100 miles a day. Since breaking my ankle (just WALKING, I might add) I gave up the bike.
I've set off metal detectors in airports- and before they made you take off your shoes for the detectors, I had to anyway, to show the attendents the scar. It doesn't happen much anymore-- makes you wonder...
It's great that you've lost 31.5 lbs. How long did it take you?

I've set off metal detectors in airports- and before they made you take off your shoes for the detectors, I had to anyway, to show the attendents the scar. It doesn't happen much anymore-- makes you wonder... Lol. Well at least you could prove that you weren't playing around about it that way . It's great that you've lost 31.5 lbs. How long did it take you? It's taken me uhm dang like..... since around April when I got my DDR and then decided to play it. I haven't really been trying to lose weight though, but I have been shaping up my diet and stuff. I eat right ( mostly ) now, so even though I may not be losing anything most of the time due to my sporadic exercising, I'm maintaining what I did lose before, which I've never been able to do before. I have a sort of DDR lifestyle and I love it .

Welcome!! To encourage you I was on beginner mode for a year before I went onto to light and I was gettinga a bit of a work out too, I lost about 50 pounds by changing my diet and exercising. I am now a vegetarian which is not for everyone so get the wrong idea, I am not one of those PETA activists. I actually almost loath them, their intentions are good but the way they go about it is wrong, anyways getting of topic here. Just keep plugging away on begginer and soon enough you will be on light. And ditto with abrannan. Welcome again and keep going!! WINGS
