I'm a newbie to DDR, but I've already seen a good improvement with my everyday habbits.
Yes, I smoke (unfortunately) but since I've got the game my cravings for cigarettes have become few and far between. No I'm not playing so much I don't have time, the cravings just seem to go away. I don't know if theres any link to being active and not wanting to smoke or what but whatever it is it's working.
Also I work full time at Wendy's, so it's sooooo easy to eat fast food every day. But my appetite for it has depleated. I look at the food and think 'Eww - I'd have to play for an hour and a half to burn that off!' I never thought the game would have such an impact on my health, but it's working, even after 4 days. I work nights and usually felt groggy and pathetic waking up in the morning, but now I wake up and jump right out of bed (besides the shooting paid throughout my legs LOL).
Is it just me or has anyone else had a similar experience? Did it last?

I went to bed one night and decided not to smoke again.
It's been a year and a half since then, and I've had exactly two cigars. (One for getting married, one for becoming a dad). That's it. The cigarettes got shredded up to base pewter miniatures on, or just thrown away.
Everyone's story is different. Yet, if you're feeling the urge not to smoke again then it may help you quit entirely - should you choose to do so.
Good luck.

I got bronchitis and realized, "If I keep smoking, I'm going to be hacking like this my whole life until I die from it."
Stopped smoking and I haven't turned back. That was almost twenty years ago. May it's just your body telling you what you need and it's time for you to quit because you don't need cigarettes anymore.

I'm a casual smoker, like maybe 3 a week, but I have a good friend who smokes about a pack and half a day, and the poor fellow used to be so good at DDR, but now he can last like 3 songs before he's dead. I have no intention of stopping being a casual smoker, but I won't ever get to that point.

My family has a history of having problems from cigarettes, which is what made me quit. My grandmother died from lung cancer, and her son . . . my Dad, had to spend 2 weeks on a respirator about this time last year because he had pneumonia so bad that his lungs just shut down and quit working altogether. He had a 4 pack a day habit and now has COPD (the new term for emphysema), so basically he will most likely die from cigarettes. With good management and lots of medication, he can live for a good 20 or 30 more years, but he will eventually need to be on oxygen everywhere he goes, and he can never be too far away from his nebulizer (the machine that you get hooked up to in the ER for bad athsma attacks). My maternal grandfather also has COPD, and it's probably going to kill him as well. I'm not saying to quit. Everyone has the right to continue smoking if they want. I still have the occasional cigarette myself (one every three or four months). I even know a woman, 80 years old and has smoked since she was 15, who has almost no problems related to smoking. But my personal experience has been that too many people end up in trouble because of smoking. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now. UJKitten

I also have a history of smoking related deaths in my family. On my moms side of the family, cancer is dominate; on my dads side, it's heart problems. So I get the best of both worlds *sarcasm* I'm still smoking, but I plan to quit within the next 2 years. I'm slowly weeding out bad habbits one at a time... first, fast food (which is going very well) then I'm going to conquer nail biting, dating men who are idiots, and eventually smoking. I know if I load up on too much at once than I'm just going to end up saying screw it to everything... Im just taking it one day at a time

ive had this same experience. i am a smoker myself....about a pack every 2 days, and i found myself, when i started playing DDR, and excercising before that, ive been able to hold on to a pack for about a week. its amazing what you tend to get rid of when you do HEALTHY things

hmmm, i know smoking cigarettes is bad for you, they're yucky and i dont smoke them...however i am 'psychologically addicted' to smoking something else ... i totally notice detrimental effects during playing and just in normal life... playing really hard and long helps...it promotes a high of its own... unfortunatly it doesn't last...

Hrm... I haven't gotten high in a long time. I grew out of that a while ago. As for smoking, I still havent quit yet. It's my crutch, especially at work. I also find it helps supress my appetite, cause if I go for about 4 hours without a break I start picking at the fries and pineapple and stuff. I do feel healthier, in spite of smoking, from excercising more and from eatingh ealthier. I'll quit eventually, for now I'm trying to kick one habbit at a time
