Hello peeps!
My boyfriend and I went to Best Buy yesterday for a new digital camera and I wanted to check out the video games. I saw the dance pads for sale in the corner. I had wanted to try DDR for a long time, but never got around to it. Soooo... and impulse buy later, we had our game and two dance pads. When we got home and set it up, it was incredible! We played for 3 hours without even realizing it. We're both heavy people and have been trying to lose weight since we moved in together in July... but we both keep losing the motivation to go to the gym or ride the exercise bike. I couldn't believe how much fun DDR was and what a workout too! I have to say, I'm hooked... after one day! I found this site this morning and couldn't wait to make a post ;D Reading some of the testimonials has really got me pumped! I wish I could leave work right now to go play lol. My bf just called a little while ago to say he can't wait until we get home tonight to play either!

Have fun playing it, as it's inspired much of us to lose weight.
Just make sure you play it consistantly and to make an according diet if you want to lose weight...

We didn't get Extreme... we just got DDRMax and I have a few questions somone might be able to help me with... Is there any way to keep playing continuously without resetting after every three songs (1st stage, 2nd stage, final stage)? We only went for an hour tonight... kinda sore from yesterday... but it feels great! Thanks for the words of welcome

Go to options and turn Event Mode on. It is under Gameplay/Game Mode options, or something like that. It will still go Stage 1-3, then give you a final score and immediately return you to the song selection wheel. Also, that turns autofail off, so you will get Es instead of failing songs.

I don't remember if Max has it, but Max 2 and Extreme has Endless mode as a final unlock. (Max 2 anyway.)

Awesome!!
I turned the event mode on this morning and also upped the stages to 5 (yay!) More songs in a row and no credits! Soo much better!
I had another question though... How long should a person play a day for effictive weight loss? My boyfriend told me after about 30 - 45 minutes, your body doesn't get any added benefit from more cardio. This doesn't seem right to me, but I'm not an expert and he's more of a weight lifter than a cardio guy. Any advice?
I don't want to lose the weight rapid-fire. I'd rather take it slow and steady, but I want to see results.

I'm curious what your BF means by "added benefit". Cardio burns calories, more cardio will burn more calories. There are difficulties if you get into anaerobic exercise, and your body starts breaking down other things to get energy for your muscles, but you can keep yourself aerobic for quite a while.

I just say play until you can't play any longer. 30-45 minutes probably isn't enough unless you're playing fairly intense songs [8-10 footers, but seeing as you just started, I doubt you're that far.] When I was playing on Light and Standard, I would play for 3 - 4 hours a day.

I thought the more you played the more calories you'd burn too! Rock on! My bf was talking about anaerobic exercise (neither of us knew the name for it), damaging the muscles and whatnot... but it seems that you would have to play a loooooot of DDR to get to that point. We only played for another hour or so last night before we had to stop... feeling the burn lol! We agreed to take today off because we were groaning as we got out of bed this morning (and not in a good way ) Hopefully we'll build up strength soon so we can play much longer every day! We are only on 3 to 4 footers on light now... we are weak piece! But we're getting better with every day... which is pretty nifty, I think. I put it on roulette sometimes so I can suck at the harder songs just for fun lol.

I think what your boyfriend heard about was the benefits of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise is helpful for burning calories and strengthening the heart. After 30 minutes or so, your heart doesn't benefit from any more exercise, but you are still burning calories. The soreness that you feel will get better if you stretch before and after you play. See the posts in this entry for information about stretching. getupmove.proboards26.com/index.cgi?board=pounds&action=display&thread=1096853390

Right, running and other exercises that are usually cited for anaerobic exercise don't involve taking breaks between songs. With a run/walk jogging program, you can delay the onset of anaerobic functioning for a long time. It's the same with DDR, you rest between songs, catch your breath, etc. You never really "hit the wall" so to speak.
