Remember when RO came out with their first metal pad (pre-Afterburner?) I had one and one arrow failed after 3 months so I just ordered a new pad.
Well today I was faced with how to I get rid of this thing and decided I have nothing to lose and took it apart and found a disconnected wire under the plate. A little soldering, and it works again! Hah! Now I have 2 metals! So if anybody else has an old RO metal that failed you might be able to save it. It is harder to use than the CF though because you have to pound it harder. Feels like there is about twice as much space between the plate and the contact underneath. I wonder if there is any way to bring the arrow plates down closer?

Why not build up the plates underneath? There are a bunch of ways to do it, but I'd go with a bit of roofing flashing. It comes in rolls or sheets in the roofing section of your hardware store. Just make sure the stuff you get is conductive, and you can spot solder it to the contact sheet, minimizing the distance to the arrow plate.
If it's too large a gap, you might even be able to use screws.
