Wow... I hate it. The arrows don't change color based on rhythme there's no step chart you can see before you pick the song it's just... bleh. But hey, I guess it's just cause I started on DDR.. I bet the people that do the reverse hate DDR at first?

I'm fine at both, I can pass all 13's on ITG and most 13's on PUMP an it only took me like a month or 2 on PUMP, but I can clearly understand your problem the fact theres no colour coding really does screw me up sometimes.

Pump is really a very different game. More so than the difference between ITG and DDR. The 5 arrow layout offers a huge jump in the number of different basic step sequences there are. I've always likened it to learning a different language. Sure the same basic sounds are there, but they're put together in such different ways that you really have to take a step back and re-learn a number of skills. I find that PIU really needs the x2 or x3 modifier since you can't read rhythm by color anymore. But by the same token, I've found that having to read rhythms on PIU purely on distance has helped me read some of the more difficult sequences on DDR/ITG. And of course, PIU was really built more for freestyling: youtube.com/watch?v=KcHkEmfEQ0cI don't hate PIU more or less than DDR, it's a completely different feeling to me. I find myself paying more attention to body positioning/reading ahead on PIU, but I don't flow as well as I do on DDR/ITG.

Also, Pump has an entire mode dedicated to freestyling. It amazes me how little DDR actually does for it's more experienced players

I suck at PIU. lol. The arrows frustrate me, and it's really hard for me to reach angle jumps. My legs just aren't long enough for that game. I find that the positioning is really hard on my body. Freestyling on PIU is pretty much impossible for my short legs. I can hardly pass the easiest of freestyle songs.
