How long has DDR been out? I thought it was fairly new. Me and technology. Pfft.

Extreme 2 came out on the annual release schedule that Konami has been using for DDR releases for the past 4 years or so. There were 4 major dance game releases last year (PIU, ITG, Ultramix 3 and Extreme 2), more than any other year. There are already plans for 5 or more dance game releases this year.
DDR is hardly dead, each new release is selling more than the previous releases. Yes, it's "old news" for most gamers, but the general American public is just getting educated about it now.

The only bad thing about DL'ing from BMS or anywhere else is that a lot of the files are going to be sucktastic and not have arrows on the right beats . Or they'll all be 12 footer heavy's.

well, let me try a shot at this. the original ddr stuff came out about 6-7 years ago(remeber this is as far as I recall) and got really popular for a while. then, people started to get Triple S(yup old school grades) on every song and started to become Gods of DDR,like yasu or Arin, and stopped playing. well alot of others did the same thing till max, max2 , and extreme came out. Once again DDR was dying, then ITG and PIU(not sure what year it came out) was made and thus the rebirth of DDR. That and a bunch of people that are in love with the game, like me, who convince people to play and start making teams.
Thats my opinion.

I don't think it is dying. I just dont think the popularity is growing as much as it used to.

In it's defense...I didn't start DDRing until Extreme 2 and it's proven to be an excellent game for me, as a beginner to the whole realm. I could see how it's all old hat to a lot of people who've been doing it for 4+ years, but I can understand how it's a hard game to expand on. Find music track, add step patterns. Once you've seen all possible step patterns they can toss at you, it's hard to stay interested.

I dont think DDR will be "dead" for a long, long time. I mean sure, alot of people will move on from the game, but theres always gonna be tons of new kids and people being enchanted by it. It's just the circle of life.
