I just 4 days go got an ignition pad from ebay for about 40 bux the pad worked fine the first couple of days then suddenly the back arrow stopped responding IF i am standing on another arrow button at the time i hit the back arrow I can get off the pad and just step on the back arrow alone and it works fine but anyway which pads are the best to use i dont really want to spend a 100 bux on RO ignition pad because im afraid it will do the same thing as this one has it doesnt make the game completely unplayable just very annoying! I have saw some metal pads on ebay for about 100 or so dollars including S&H have any of you all got one of those pads from ebay? If so how long did it last I want a pad that will last at least a year or two I dont have the cash to spend a 100-200 dollars every couple of months on a new pad. In your opinion which cheaper pad is the best and will last the longest if they are no "good" cheap pads then i dont really mind putting 200-300 dollars into one as long as it will last me for a while.

I just 4 days go got an ignition pad from ebay for about 40 bux Doubtful. You probably got an ignition-style pad, which can have a WIDE variance is quality. First off, don't buy pads on ebay. Most (90+%) of them are from cheap manufacturers, and fly by night operations that will skimp on everything they can in the pad. Get a pad from a reputable source, and learn to take care of it to extend it's life. That means storing it flat and not refolding it, never playing with shoes on, etc. I recommend doing a google search for soft ddr pad modding. You'll find instructions for buying some simple items from a hardware store that will give you high quality performance out of those $20 soft pads you see. You'll even be able to play in shoes. Again, don't buy pads from ebay. It's more trouble than it's worth. Right now the top two pads out there are the Cobalt Flux and RedOctane's Afterburner. But even with those, you'll have to take care of them to get the full lifespan out of them.

yeah I've had my afterburner for 2 months and I'm super anal about taking it apart and cleaning it once a month. I also have an air can that I blow it off with from time to time. My right arrow is creeking and I need to take a look at it today. I'm affraid it might crack. That would mean a replacement arrow... and that would mean ordering it and waiting for it...
BUT... I DO really like my afterburner.

get cobalt flux Why? That's 15 $20 soft pads. If I can get 6 months of good use out of a soft pad (and it's very easy to with modding), that's 7.5 years of gameplay for the same cost as a Flux. 5 years compared to an Afterburner. Perhaps if the Flux came with a lifetime warranty instead of the weak 6 month warranty that they have.

I have a MadCatz, another 3rd-party mat that I can't think what the name of it is, and a cheap bootleg that looks like an official Konami one. Suprisingly, my bootleg is the most reliable in accuracy, and slips less too. The other two, I always seem to have trouble with the right foot...
I'd choose several cheap ones over one metal one at this stage. I'm not aiming for A's while I'm working out. If I want to do that, I'll just go to the arcade.

Are Afterburners and Cobalt Fluxes really that unreliable?

No, but they do take maintenance (dismantling and cleaning).

2 softs for the moment (one is from intel and brand new, got it for really dirty price lol) and one from madcatz. But i'm going to build a metal one soon ^^ And btw NEVER buy pads on ebay, many of them are broken or have ''hidden'' bills so...

I use 2 cobalt fluxes with the "arcade mod" on them. love them alot. haven't had a single issue with them yet and had them a year. I opted for the flux's because I destroyed 2 soft pads (one was a RO iirc) in one month. after seeing the video of severals cars a truck and a scooter running over a CF and then it working perfectly afterwards I was sold. also alot of my leg pains have been minimized because of better support because of my shoes.
But to each his own, Chris

The mat that comes with Mario Mix is WONDERFUL. No slipping, either on top or bottom, and no misfires, even though I got it pre-owned.
I think I'm going to have to look out for official Konami mats for the PlayStation when the cheap ones I have die for good.
I think I might make my old broken mats into a bag or something neat ^_^ I'm crafty like that.

I have a flux, which, unfortunately could not bring with me to college (and I am hating every minute of it), plus the fact that my mother took away my ps2 because it was "un-educational" could put a hamper on my DDRing...that's another story I will share later...

She doesn't care, I tried reasoning with her "Would you rather me spend more money to get my DDR fix at the arcade, or would you like for me to put what I already spent money on to good use?" nothing, she still said no...but my mom is easy to get to, it is my aunt I have to worry about. I just haven't argued it enough so it is partly my fault.

Arguing would probably lead you into more trouble... Good idea

I feel for you havix...my mom hates tv, video games and the like. Pretty much if it's not a book, it automatically leads to being brain dead.
Fortunatly, I'm a married woman, and my hubby and I both love gaming, so what my mom says matters little at this point.
However, growing up, it was quite the pain to have to deal with.

I still want a CF, but it's not looking likely that it'll be happening, so that's how I'm going to stick for right now. Awesome idea with making a bag out of the old pads. I have a few really crappy ones that I got conned into buying when I wasn't DDR smart, so maybe they'll be reliable as a bag since they weren't as dance mats .

Is anyone having RedOctane Ignition 3.0 problems? My 2.0s lasted 9 months but these are giving out after 3 months of moderate use. I can't find RedOctane Ignition 2.0s anymore, even on Ebay. I really need the dense foam. Any knockoff brands that are more reliable?
