(Yes I know PA means perfect attack, don't get your panties in a knot)
Anyways, my PA blows. At the arcade I can FC a song and still only get a B on it 'cause my PA is so bad. Is there anything I should be doing to try and improve it? I'm more of an audio player, as in I'll see the arrows and step on them in accordance with the beat as opposed to just trying to match them to the step zone (which I barely look at anyways). Maybe that's the problem there...
Anyhoo, if anyone has any tips it would be greatly apperciated.

People who get a bunch of AAAs are for the most part visual players, especially since some songs (D2R being the notorious one) are rather "off."
BUT it is most certainly possible to get many AAs, SDGs, and maybe a couple AAAs playing audially (what a weird word). I'm not really one to be giving good tips on PA. I'm sure MATS could help more.
One thing that helps me is the assist tick. I play with it in stepmania and sometimes on the home version, and when I go to the arcade, I hear the rhythm in my head without even really thinking about it, and it makes it a lot easier to get perfects. Also, this one might be too obvious, but focus on keeping everything steady. You have to be relaxed for this, or you'll kinda spaz and hit arrows too early. If there is a long stream of slowish notes (fast quarters/eighths), focus on the amount of time between each step and trying to keep it constant. If there are sixteenths, focus on making them exactly half of the eighth, and don't do them TOO quickly, because the tendency is to do them as fast as you can and end up rushing.
You could also try the visual thing, but I've frankly never been fond of that and find it rather boring. It probably helps though.
Oh, and speed mods may improve your PA too, especially if you start playing more visually. So if you don't use them already, try it.

Well, MATS and I seem to be the most actively PA-friendly people around.
Lining up the arrows is exactly what you DON'T want to do to improve your PA. That's a basic thing, so many arrows aren't synched with the dull arrows at the top.
What I did to improve is do some slow, easy songs like Days Go By, Bad Routine, Brick House, Celebrate, Ecstasy, etc. and basically just listen to the beat. Make sure you do not anticipate or drag out the beat, because you need to remember that the step has to go RIGHT on the beat, nothing else. As you get better with slower songs, which are harder to PA, you'll get better at quicker songs.
The slow songs basically teach you not to rush the beat, which is usually the biggest problem as far as PA goes. Before you know it, you'll be floying around B4U with 7 or 8 greats.
Set one song in particular that's a bit challenging, like Twilight Zone, Xenon, etc., and see how well you can get your PA on that in just a few weeks.
I remember on Xenon I use to get 70-80 greats, and now I'm 20-30. Not great, but much better.
I guess that's about all the help I can offer.
Remember: Exactly on the beat!

It's funny, my PA is better for slower songs than it is for faster... reference the My Summer Love AA I got earlier today. Any AA's on something with a *real* bpm? Nope. Boo.
I guess I'm just used to taking advantage of the fact that it's piss easy to Perfect steps on UM2, which is the game I learned DDR on. I 'spose I'll just practice. It was funny, I did a few rounds on dark earlier and my PA was the same as it would have been if I had played with the step zone. Go figure.
I'll take the advice... gives me an excuse to who-... overplay Twilight Zone ;D Over and over and over again...

Have you tried turning up your judge difficulty? IIRC, it'll make the perfect windows smaller, forcing you to be more accurate, so it'll be easier to hit perfects when you're playing on a machine with a lower difficulty. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I can change the difficulty in UM1, but all that does is adjust how many times you mistep before you fail. I don't think y?ou can adjust the timing windows at all in the Ultramixs'?

Okay, I was wrong then (thought I might be). But you could change your timing windows in Stepmania.

Shoot for under 15 greats on My Summer Love, it's quite attainable.
(My record is 9... oh yeah, *gloat, gloat.*)

Ok so my problem is this.
I step too fast. I don't pay attention to when I'm supposed to make the steps as much as I do to making sure I step on the appriopate arrow in correspondance with the beat. Basically, as soon as I hear the beat I step, and I now know I should delay that by a few fractions of a second to make sure I actually get the step ON the beat, as opposed to when I think the beat is.
...if that made any sense.
I tried it out on Healing Vision and came out with something like 15 Greats. For songs with faster BPM I get lazy and starting playing like I usually do, so I can FC the combo. PA requires a lot more concentration... I usually just go with the flow. If I'm gonna be all Asian-wannabe and can AAA MaxX Unlimited while juggling chainsaws I'm gonna have to learn to concentrate more.

One problem people have is trying to look at every arrow. Personally, I pick a spot on the screen to focus my eyes on, and force myself to not look at each arrow as it goes up. This will also help with being able to focus more on the beat and let you see the arrows without having to concentrate too hard to watch them....If all else fails...just flail around violently...
