Well, I wear shoes usually between the sizes of 13 and 14, and they're also wide, so I'm use to having big feet.
I always like to use basketball shoes. Nike Max Dunks and Adidas Duncans seem to usually be my best bet.
I know a lot of people use Vans or whatever blah blah blah, but the only kind of shoes I have like those are some Pumas...
I also only use my Shox in the arcade because I'm too scared to get my basketball shoes dirty... =)

Running shoes in general tend to be lightweight and have good soft impact since that is what they are designed for. Puma makes good running shoes, as does New Balance, and Nike, of course. Puma is my favorite, but all of the above can be kind of pricey once you get into their higher-end running shoes. I'm not a runner, tho, so you may want to ask someone who really knows what they are talking about. Puma still rules. UJKitten

Oh, I have this one pair of PUMAs that owns all over everything, the bottom is a harder rubber with almost zero flat areas. It's too short though I want to get a new big pair. Also, skate shoes work really well. Vans, DC, Eitneis, but don't use Converse. The rubber is too soft.

Are they basketball/XC/running shoes? Because I guarentee anyone playing in Adidas or Nike basketball shoes will feel better than anything else... they're made to be comfortable in those types of movements. Check my Signature... those are good shoes to do it in.

nike MAX AIR or something Yes, cause clearly Nike would produce shoes with the Adidas logo on the sole. My guess would be the a3 Superstar Structure, available in your choice of two colors for $100. Okay, so I cheated and looked at the Adidas site.

I think you misunderstood. I actually asked MATS what type of Nikes he had. Ahh, I understand. Sorry for the overwhelming dsarcasm in my post, then. I just saw "What model of adidas are those?" followed by "Nike Max Air or something". Apologies all around. Of course I looked it up, I may know a lot of random stuff, but shoes aren't one of them.

I don't think there's any problem playing barefoot @ home.... Just a soft pad after all...

I just started a few weeks ago, and I play at home. I was barefoot, but it really did a number on my shins and arches. I upgraded to the redoctane 3.0 pad, and that has helped, though it's still not ideal. I've tried playing with shoes, but my women's size 9s seem to trip arrows unintentionally unless I return precisely to center.
Can some of you talk about your experiences on home pads with or without shoes?
I'm also thinking about adding a bit of softer pad material on top of the firmer ignition core foam. Had anyone else done this? Any sucess stories?
Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend wearing shoes unless you're playing on a metal pad, they just abuse the soft and foam mats too much. As for your shins and arches, you're developing new muscles, and they'll be sore for a while, but you will eventually build up the strength in those areas to stop that soreness. You might try taping your arches in the meantime.
The problem with adding softer material, either in or on the pad, is that your feet will sink further into the pad, which requires you to lift your feet more while playing, which slows you way down on some of the faster songs.

I know that "skater" shoes can be bad, but basketball shoes are the absolute worst as far as squeakiness goes.
I mean, just LISTEN to a basketball game.

Nike AIR is awesome for DDR.. My shoes are weightless. I'll look for what kind. They're white.
