I have read several posts about mods and I have no idea what they are Does it make the song harder or eaiser, faster or slower? I guess what I am asking is.... What are they? How do I use them? How do I apply them to a song? Why do they make the song better (is the song easier to pass)? Thanks, M

Mods are a list of different modifications you can make to the arrows of a song. To use them, hold down your song select button when choosing a song, and it will bring you to the mod select screen. Most mods will make playing a song more difficult, the exception being arrow speed mods, which can be used to provide a little better separation for slower songs (like Bag).

good songs for speeding up A. on x2 So Deep on X3 Bag on X5 I usually use 1.5 on A because when it gets going, it can be hard to read with all the stream. Also, So Deep on X3 probably wouldn't give you enough time to get your feet seet for the rhythms coming up.

This is probably a stupid question , but if mods speed up the arrows is there anything that slows them down? I have just moved to standard and the faster songs' arrows move so fast I am just standing there confused on some parts of songs. It is like my brain can't process the arrows fast enough, but i can A/AA all songs on light so I know it is time to move up. I have MAX, MAX2, EXTREME, and the ps original DDR, so I am hoping on one of these there might be a feature to slow down the arrows. Thanks, m

You can only slow them down on Stepmania. If you want to make it easier, slowing down the arrows is really not a good idea. It crams the arrows together making the patterns harder to read and understand. The reason people speed up the arrows is because they become spaced out and easier to read.

Thanks, m IIRC, there's a .75x modifier (Maybe only on Stepmania or DWI) that does "slow" the arrows down, but it also compresses the space between the arrows so it's harder to read rhythms into it. If you want to get yourself reading arrows faster, play a slower song (120 bpm or slower) at 2x or 3x to get the reading speed of a 240-360 bpm song. That will improve your reading speed. The real difficulty in moving from light to standard is the 8th notes, which usually cause instant and immediate brain seizures, rendering you either unable to move, or sending you into spastic convulsions as you try to keep up with the perceived avalanche of arrows flying down the screen at breakneck speeds. Best way I've found to deal with this is to go into training mode (max or max2, extreme doesn't have the feature) and take advantage of the speed and handclaps feature. Start at a speed of 3 (5 is full speed) and work through the song slowly until you get a feel for the rhythm. Work the speed up until you can play the song at full speed without claps. Do that for two or three songs and I think you'll suddenly find yourself playing 7 foot songs, without difficulty.

"What about the Max songs" what? Slowing down the Maxes doesn't make them easier as they become more cluttered, and speeding out the arrows on a Max does indeed make them spaced out and easier to read, just really fast. I guess what I am saying is: I have no clue what you are asking. I guess the answer is "yes." Or "no?" I dunno.

if you slow it down it will be more clutered but you wont have to panic as much I have a problem with that.

I think it is in the Trick Oni course. That is an exception; it is impossible to actually choose the 0.25x mod in the arcade.

Ok so if you AA - A is it considered a AAA? ok *knee slap* I can AA it without any mods, well only with the arrows on solo style...that being said, sometimes depending on the BPM of some songs, i like to put the mod on 1.5 or 2 if i am trying to figure out rhythms...helps a bit

Thanks guys for all your advise. After practicing in Training Mode with the mods set, I am finally passing the faster Standard songs in Game Mode. Wow doing the slower songs at x2 and x3 really helped my brain learn process the arrows faster. Great to have a place to get such advise. Thanks again, -M
