What's the difference between workout steps option in DDR Extreme. I have that option selected b/c it says it will give u a "good cardio exercise". Is it more difficult to play without the workout step option on?

It's probably less difficult, to some degree. 1/8 and 1/16 steps are removed, for a lower-impact workout.
Basically, all you're left with are 1/4 note steps. That is, if you count 1,2,3,4 with the music, those are the 1/4 notes. 1/8 would be 1-and 2-and 3-and 4-and when counting.

Workout Steps make very little difference in the "light" levels because few of them have 1/8 and 1/16 steps, and if they do then they don't have too many of them. Imho, it basically turns all the standard and heavy levels into light, so it's useful if, like me, you're not good enough to pass a standard or heavy level yet, but want to try out different step patterns on songs that you like.
