First, anyone know any places to rent the console version of any DDR with the pad? Doesn't look like Blockbuster has it. Not sure where else to try. I just don't care to try it out in the arcade, rather do it in the privacy of home :-)
Second, I live in a 2nd floor apartment. If I were to get the $60 package with the regular Konomi pad, I'm afraid it may make a little too much noise for those below. I was jumping around trying it out and if I'm hopping around on the balls of my feet, it seems ok, but if I do flat foot, everything shakes quite a bit. Doesn't seem to do too much when I'm just stepping around, its just when I jump. So...
Is the base Konomi soft pad still the best to get for noise wise? I've read putting a blanket or something under it might help but I would think that would make it pretty hard to dance on. Also, how hard do you have to go on the pad, can you just lightly step on it or do you have to stomp it for it to register?

Unfortunetly you're going to shake the place terribly on higher difficulty and your neighbors will hate you. I was playing upstairs but the vibrations were knocking things off shelves and such so I had to move it downstairs, and I have a pad with a foam insert.
It's a downside to DDR. Not sure how to help you... I can't see a way where you won't be bothering them.

I've been watching people do the light and I figure even that will take a heck of a lot of practice to be able to handle, probably months before I would get past light.

It seems hard but it's likely you'll move to standard in a couple weeks or less. Plus, there are some faster light songs that'll get you bouncing around.
Possibly playing on light in workout mode will keep the noise down enough, but that probably won't be enough of a workout for you in a couple months or less of regular play.

Yeah, I was thinking about my DDR a few days ago, and I was starting to play Heavy songs (waaay mostly 5-6 footers,) about a month after I got DDR.

Best advice here is to talk wth your downstairs neighbors, and try to find a time when either they won't be home, or won't mind you birning the ceiling down on them.
