I read a news article about this site a while back and started reading some of the testimonials about people losing weight playing DDR. As an overweight guy who's also a gamer I decided to check it out. So for Christmas this past weekend I got DDR Ultramix 2 and a couple of dance pads for my XBox. It took me a few songs to get used to the pad and rhythm of the beats but I'm getting the hang of it now. I'm starting off on Beginner and that seems to suit me perfect for right now. I got up this morning and hit a few songs after waking up which was pretty cool. Woke me up and got my heart pumping a little bit. Anyway, hope to learn more and keep this thing going. Nice site you have here! ;D

If you've got live, be sure to check out the morning Workout that Laura Moncur runs on Thursdays. It's in the Xbox board.

If there are enough people, Sinistar and I could break up and he could take the Standard people and I could play with the Light/Beginner people.
Xbox Live is totally worth it.

Hey SBrooks1! I'm in a similar boat to you, I think. I'm just a overweight gamer in his mid-20s who had never tried DDR before this fall and got it for my Xbox.
I warn you, it's a slippery slope, especially if you are an adult with an income or credit cards. Heh... I've only been playing a couple months on soft pads (and not much on them because I just didn't like the way they felt) and I went and got a Cobalt Flux "metal" pad. It's the bees knees, let me tell you. Between the two Ultramix games, my soft pads and my CF, this is getting expensive. I've even started making plans in the dark recesses of my mind for buying a PS2 and modding it so I can get all the other home DDR variations that are out there.
All this and I'm still not any good at this game, but I'm definately hooked.
I'm on Live quite a bit playing other things (lately a lot of World Championship Poker). Look me up as "Darth Wadely" if you are on and we can ddr together like the newbies that we are.
Oh yeah, and I'm planning on being there for Laura's workout Thursday morning. I'd love to find a few west coast folks who wouldn't mind meeting a little later in the morning or on a different day, so I could help coordinate that if we got enough people joining.

I think I may purchase X-box live and ultramix 2. So if you're looking for a "harder" work out, contact me.

I may contact you, although I won't be able to pass all the 10 footers.
This is, of course, if/when I buy Ultramix 2 and find a way to use my CF on my XBox...

I think that you can get an adaptor? How good is your PA at home? I've AAA'd holic, midnite blaze, and a bunch others at home.

I can only AAA some songs on Light... I've gotten 1 great on Funk Boogie on Heavy.
My PA isn't very good, but it's getting better. All songs 7 feet and under I usually average under 25 greats... but if it's an 8-9 footer, I usually get like 30-50 greats. If it's Xenon or something like that, it's like 70 greats.

Howdy! I'm new to the game (and this place) as well. 38. About 50 lbs overweight (230), and finally tired of having the sleeves fit but my belly pressing against the material. And that doesn't even get into the problem with pants. Anyway, my friend bought the game for his daughter and their whole family was having fun and getting exhausted, so I thought "hey...maybe I can video game myself into losing some weight." So far, I've been having a blast. I have been going for about 60-90 minutes a day, but not 100% non-stop... I do have to pause between sets. I've already suffered the ridicule of friends, but hey -- I'm too old to care what other people think. It's fun seeing perpetual improvement, and I'm just not worrying about the weight. I figure it'll come off. Sqig.

Now that's a good attitude. I agree. I faced some ridicule also from my friends, but then half of them went and bought it.

All of the friends I see every day love it. I'm pretty sure the ones I don't do too. They are all: "That's cool." or "Oh my gosh! You are so lucky, you--you--GAAH!"

If you're a teenager (or, i guess, college age), it's almost a generally accepted thing to do.
It's harder to explain when you're rapidly closing on 40!
So I don't even try.

All your friends will be dying of envy when you finally get to your healthy weight. When they ask you how you did it, just smile to yourself when you tell them it was DDR.
