but is the kaomi pad that comes with DDR extreme the best? I really like it and dont see how theyre could be improvements, besides a metal one.

The official pad is probably the best soft pad you could get. The foam-insert pads and metal pads (and modded soft pads) are better, of course.
BTW: It is KONAMI. They are a video game company that has been around at least since the early days of the NES in the 80s.

Castlevania represent. ( <-- Konami)
The Red Octane are probably the best.
Cobalt Flux for the metal kind.

Level Six is just as good as Red Octane, and cheaper too.

I just got this random memory. My first exposure to DDR was when my room mate at the time brought home pads for ths PSOne. I spent the evening playing Castlevania Symphony of the Night with the DDR pad.

Level Six is just as good as Red Octane, and cheaper too. I'm going to mildly disagree with this. The Level six pads are a better value, but do have a few drawbacks compared to the Ignition (And yes, I have done a literal side-by-side comparison). The primary is that the material that the RO Ignition pads are made of is less brittle, more flexible, and thinker than the Level Six pads. Over time the Level six pads are more prone to cracking (particularly in colder weather) than the RO pads. My ultimate Ignition pad would have the Foam insert of the L6, the light-up control box of the L6, the pad surface of the RO and the PS/Xbox compatibility of the RO, for about $60.
