When I got DDR I'm pretty sure I remember reading on the dance pad (I have a mad catz dance pad because that's the only one they had at Best Buy at the time!) that your supposed to dance on the pad barefoot? Well.. I've been doing this and it hurts my feet really bad now that I'm getting better and moving faster and also doing alot of jumping on the pad. Do you think it's safe to just wear my shoes now, or will that even help my feet from hurting as much I wonder? comments would be appreciated, thanks.

I also have a Mad Catz...[but I'm getting an Ignition...] and have a total disregard for anythint the box says. However, I DID use to play on the mat with bare feet on Light Mode mostly. I heard that using shoes is much better, and so I did it and never looked back. I can't imagine Standard without shoes. My mat is just fine, and I'm heavy too. It's not like the Mad Catz are too valuable anyway...or expensive for that matter...

If you wear shoes you'll break your pad easier. The hard soles won't slip on the pad as easily, which results in tearing, either on the surface fo the pad, or worse, the inner connections. If you wear shoes on a soft mat, you'll find yourself buying a new mat within 3 months. My recommendation is to tape your arches if your feet are bothering you, and/or buy some cheap foam padding at Home Depot to lessen the impact.
