Well, I actually have known about DDR for a few years and have played only once in the Arcade. I got frustrated with it, mainly because I thought I looked like an idiot, and never played it again.
Then I saw an article last night on Foxnews.com about DDR and people loosing massive amounts of weight. Well, I'm in need to unflab my butt, so I figure maybe I should give it a shot?
From what I've heard, you don't realize you are working out and I've heard from those who've played it that you can work up a sweat in as little as 5 minutes.
Anyway, I came here to get more information. Hopefully in the next week or two, I can get the game and pad and dive in.

that's cool, what ddr mix are you planning to get?
there's max and max 2 right now
or if you have the x box it's ultramix
for a beginner, you should start off with those 20 dollars pads

My tips for starting out:
-You will be bad at first. Don't worry. Everybody was bad the first many times they played it. If the version you get has a lesson mode, use it. Learn how to move your feet and read the arrows. It's sort of like playing an instrument, practice will pay off.
- If your pad is sliding around too mcuh, find something to tape it to, like a piece of plywood. You'll get less frustrateed this way.

I actually have a PS2. I was thinking about getting a combo I saw on eBay for 45.00 + tax. It comes with DDR Max and one of the better pads it looks like.

Now that's not really true. Cheap wireless sucks, especially if it's Infrared-based. Radio Frequency-based wireless is pretty decent, especially because you don't have to maintain line-of-sight like you have to with IR. The Nintendo Wavebird is RF, and it rocks. Bose uses RF for their remotes.

I have no familiarity with the XgameGear pads myself. But they've got the retail price of DDRMAX2 marked high in the auction description ($45, you can get it most places for $30). It also appears that the pads they're auctioning are the thinner softer pads. Usually if they've got a comparable product ot the RedOctane Ignition pads they'll say so in the ad, or they'll talk about foam inserts, not cushioning. So my guess is it's a pair of cheap pads(the kind you find for $20, not the nicer redoctane knockoffs) and the game and the seller is still making a profit. I'd stay clear of it. You could walk into a Gamestop, pickup DDRMAX2 and 2 cheap pads for the same or less money.

Well, I went to Red Octane's site and the regular pad they have is not in stock. That's the one I really want. Have a suggestion to a knock off of Red Octane?
