One day i was dreaming of kicking major arse DDR style online with my cobwebed Network adapter for ps2..because I sware that chunk of dead weight merely Laughs continualy at me everytime i ponder its purchase (which was original FFXI before it was out,but i had no credit card for online play -.-)And Just watches Jerry Springer all day, while eating smores...*cough* well actualy I would be getting my arse kicked madly by sleepless obsessed pro's without my sedentary laziness....Anyhow..to the POINT..I stumbled online to notice that X-Box players(The H311 with them and their dark pez dispensor assaulting forces)got ONLINE for their DDR! *twitch*.
First of all DDR become way before on the sony systems, rather then that evil twisted puppy munching black box of doom..AND the Network Adapter was also offered before LIVE..what is with this DDR betrayal to the eternal allegiance of PS/2 Brothern? i dont even believe DDR Extreme(that is the next coming right?) Is going to offer Online PLay. >.<

well I know that xbox live had a lot more people playing on it than ps2 online does. So thats why they just threw it on xbox to see how well it does. The version don there now doesnt offer much of variety. Ultramix 2 has a lot more to do of the online play. If they see a lot of people playing online through xbox, they may put it on ps2 online. Or they will just wait till PS3.

First off, why post this here instead of the PS2 forum?
It's a lot easier to incorporate online into Xbox games because of Xbox live. All you have to do is plug into an API, and Microsoft handles the rest (billing, running servers, etc.) To do online for a PS2 game, you have to build all of those things in yourself, which for a game with a small following (and yes, DDR has a small following compared to, the games that are online for PS2 (Final Fantasy, Madden, Tony Hawk, etc))
So my guess is you won't see online DDR on the PS2. Possibly, as was mentioned before, on the PS3, provided Sony does the smart thing and adopts an Xbox Live-like approach to online.

smart,mabey...but they would loose plenty of online purchasers such as me,i dont want to pay a monthly fee per something i may not use considering the games supplied for it.Ps2's online Is free for the most part besides everquest and FFXI which is only because they are complete online games that require frequent care and altering and persistant play. DDR-already being a nationwide popular game thats still gradualy growing can easily afford a cheap server set up for the PS2,considering there are cheaper made game with much less sells that have it..note Tribes and MY Street

They might lose you as a subscriber in the short term, but as more and more songs go online, you'll come back. Say what you want, but Xbox Live has been proven as a fantastically effective tool. Online game services are going to be just another subscription you pay, just like you phone service, cable(or satellite), Online service (Cable modem/dsl/dial-up), Cellular Service, NetFlix, etc.

I have PS2 online and Xbox Live. Personally, I use XBL a lot more. I rarely play PS2 online. Xbox Live has a lot bigger audience. DDR is just playing by the demographics.

I don't believe neither of the systems offer worthwhile available online games though..besides FFXI scores kudos for PS2..because changes in the world are actualy made.. There are no Persistant online games in Xbox that i know of. just sports along with most of the ps2 games realy.. i still envy Xbox owners for their Online version of DDR,but its not a big lose considering the only people that have the nerve to play on it are bound to be much better then me.

I sucks at DDR and I will still play it online. I could care less if some random person beats me on a video game. So many people online care waaaay too much about their stats. It really makes you lose track of the fun factor.

Online gaming, to me, has the effect of sucking all of the fun and enjoyment out of any game. Networked with friends, now that's fun. But once you throw IAAS (Internet Anonymous A**hole Syndrome) into the mix, it degenerates into perfectionists, cheaters, insulters, etc. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany.

That is why you host your own. Or have a friend host it. I have a couple of friends who host 16 person servers, and if people get out of hand, you just boot them. We also boot the litttle anoying kids.
