I played DDR at home all the time in the basement with no worries, but I just moved into a 2nd floor apartment with my boyfriend, and I'm worried about getting noise violations.
Does anyone else play in their apartment? I'm not going to stop playing, I was just wondering if there was anything I should do different - like only play certain hours of the day, put something under the dance mat, etc. What do you think? Does it even bother the downstairs neighbors anyway? I haven't gotten any noise violations yet, but I've only been playing it here for a week and a half. I play 6-7 days per week, 30 minutes at a time right now (getting used to it again after a big break of not being able to afford my own PS2 and not being able to use my brother's anymore since we moved)
Thanks!

I used to live in apartments a couple of years ago, and while I did not play DDR then, I can understand the noise levels....
I would go downstairs and talk to your neighbors... work something out with them.
Maybe they are not home during certain hours or they wont mind if you play at such and such a time.
Then your fears can be put aside.

DDR + Apartments generally don't mix. Until a month ago, i lived in an apartment and i couldn't play DDR at all becuase it shook the entire building. The noise woasn't bad...but the vibrations annoyed everyone around me. Unfortunately i was basically SOL until i moved out.
But i would try to talk to your neighbors and see if there are any times that they won't be around so you can DDR. It didn't work for me cause i have a full time 9-5, M-F type job, so im never home when there would be an empty building.

I live in an upstairs apartment. We played DDR all the time for about...3 days, until the B****y downstairs neighbor came at 1 in the afternoon and told us to stop because she was trying to sleep. Bah! We havnt played DDR at home since! Anyway...you should talk to your neighbors and make sure its ok I guess. And only play during the day ;D

eee.. i can't play during the day cuz i do the 9-5 thing. i try to be good, if i was still in the house doing ddr in the basement i'd be doing it 2x a day. Before work, and after, but I don't want to wake people up at 6am!! DDR gives me so much energy and wakes me up!! I love it!

Tip for noise reduction:
First off, check the volume you're playing at, the bass can really travel (especially if you've got a subwoofer).
Second, try to play somewhere where there isn't a creaky floor, that may be easier said than done.
Third, you can absorb a lot of the noise of jumping on the pad with carpet padding. If you build a platform of about 3 layers of carpet padding, and top it off with a 1/2"-3/4" sheet of plywood, then put your mat on that, you can absorb most of the shock of your jumps, without affecting your game too much.
