OK, update time - I've now got my non-RO generic Ignition soft pad (8 arrows, diagonals behave like PSX face buttons as on most other pads). Looks very much like the Deluxe DDR Dance Mat 3.1 on LevelSix.com except mine came with the Dense Foam type insert (it's an open-cell foam rather than a dense foam rubber). The box mine came in was totally bland and unmarked and there's no little instruction sheet or anything.
I really like this pad - it's a lot better than my previous softpad ever was. The dense foam insert gives a lot of padding, meaning I don't have to bounce on the balls of my feet quite so much - I can allow the foam to cushion a full-foot landing comfortably (I weigh about 140 though, so YMMV). The strange extra plastic or foam or whatever that's in the arrow panels works really nicely - you can feel it's there and know if you're stepping on the edge or middle, but it's not hard enough to diminish the padding of the foam. The underside of the mat is a foam which does a very good job holding the zipped-shut pad in place on the carpet where I play.
Any other UK peeps who are interested can get this pad from the same place I did, www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=504
I'd stick my neck out and say that the Ignition pads from www.levelsix.com are going to be very similar in feel and play to mine - I'd guess the hard foam insert might possibly trade in the "soft landing" for a marginally more responsive and arcade-like experience, but not having the Hard Foam to compare I'm just guessing.
