If you've got instant coffee (Like Folgers, or Nescafe) just add hot water.
If you've got ground coffee, put a filter in the basket on the coffee maker, and add coffee. I usaully use about 1 tablespoon for every two "cups" of water (as measured by the coffeepot) plus one additional tablespoon. That'll give you a not too strong cup of coffee. Fill the coffeepot with water to the desired level (that you measured coffee for) and add it to the reservoir (usually on the back of the top). Put the empty pot under the basket and turn the machine on.
In about 5 minutes you should have a pot of coffee!

Syrup? You mean for flavored coffee? Just squirt a shot in your cup before you pour.

you only need a very very very small amount of syrup though or it makes the coffee unbearably sweet.

True, start light. You can always add more syrup if you need it. It's a good deal harder to remove syrup from your coffee.

It is hard to find sugar-free coffee syrups but I am hooked on the syrups made by Torani, they have regular or sugar-free ones - 0 calories! -- wonderful -- raspberry, chocolate, vanilla, hazlenut. Yum. Get them at the grocery store. Walmart also sells DaVinci sugar-free coffee syrups.

I've also heard of these mug-looking things that have a metal presser inside of them. You basically take the coffee grinds, put them in with hot water, wait a minute, then push the presser down and just pour the coffee out. It's basically a better tasting and faster version of instant coffee.
