Did you know that this seemingly innocent nursery Rhyme was in fact made up by one of the most notorius pirates of all time? Blackbeard Used this rhyme to recruit would be pirates. It was code!! thats pretty cool, if I ever spend any time in a port city I will have to keep an ear out for that one, despite what people want to think and belive there are still pirates out there, its just not as common as it use to be.

Okay, digging up an old post here, but I just wanted to mention the Snopes "Lost Legends" page that wings' post refers to is the Snopes folks version of The Onion. The Full section name is The Repository Of Lost Legends (TROLL). It's all false. See here

hey thanks for bursting my bubble. It was a green true thing oh well I must a mis read it or something. It looked legit. Shese that was a long time ago lol... But snopes is fun to look thru, I like the glurge section its got some fun stuff...

That's the point of the TROLL Section of Snopes. It's supposed to look legit. If you read the link I posted, they basically put it up there to warn people away from using any single source as being "definitive".
