Sept. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Corp., the world's biggest maker of video game players, delayed the release of its PlayStation 3 console in Europe until March, surrendering end-of-year sales to Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co.

Sales in Japan and U.S. are on schedule for a November release, Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony's video-game business, said at a news conference in Tokyo today. Sony originally said it would sell the PS3 globally from November, after promising a ``spring'' release this year. European sales were delayed because of parts shortages for the high-definition Blu-ray player included in the console, he said.

Sony is counting on the PS3 to help revive earnings at its games business and regain market share from Microsoft's Xbox 360, released almost a year ago. Nintendo, the world's largest handheld game player, is releasing its Wii console in the fourth quarter.

The Tokyo-based company kept its shipment target for the consoles to 6 million units by March 2007, said Kutaragi, the chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

But that's not all...

meh...screw video games. I would rather fill my evenings with Matlock anyways....and Price is Right is always on at 10am! It's like our little pot of gold at the end of our daily rainbow. ;D

have you seen the price point on the PS3 yet? how does 740 sound? ya I think I am going to have to pass on this system
an interesting factoide I picked up recently about the next gen systems, Microsoft and Nintendo are teaming up to kick sony where it hurts, they are releasing the Wii60 solution, thats right, you can get both a Wii and a 360 at the same time in one box for less than a PS3, the retail on this package is looking about 600.... will some one please fetch sony a blindfold and a smoke?

however I do need to correct myself on the two systems in one box thing, aparently that was an error on my part but the fact of the matter is that nintendo and microsoft are working together, at first I was really upset because I like sony but now I think I am going to let nintendo back into my life a bit more, as for microsoft... well I was going to buy a PS3 as my only next gen console but if I can get a Wii and a 360 for the price of a PS3 I may just do that..... and then start saving my money for a HD TV.
when I called it the Wii60 solution that is in refrence to what all the forum posters around the net are calling it, not an offical name.

anyways sorry about the curfluffle in regards to the whole 2 systems in 1 box thing, I am normally better about checking my sources than that but I was rather excited and got ahead of myself.

All that was was Peter Moore saying that consumers would be better off buying both the Wii and the 360 instead of a PS3. It's not even a formal agreement between the companies. They're still going to compete for licenses, when they could to so much more. This is more of a "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing.

Nintendo heard me... The Wii is getting a pack-in game (but no second controller). This may well become the first console I have *ever* bought at launch.

Edit:Oh, and it's going to be region free, too.

I've always jumped at the Playstation, but the price tag on this one just ruined it. I'm all about the wii this go, brotha', and plus... have you seen the previews for the new Zelda? Delicious.
