Oh poor talon, I feel your pain, but E3 is only changing to be more centered around the game developers. and frankly, it was never opened to the public. But don't fret yet, the Consumer Electronics Association, is stepping up, and trying to rally support to host a gaming tradeshow. Before E3, these guys were the largest video game trade show. They do the Consumer Electronics Show.

Meh. E3 was a product of it's own hype. Companies would waste way too much developer time to come up with nonsensical demos of their products (Xbox360 demo running on a MAC, Wii running on a gamecube, using pre-renders as though they were gameplay). It was at it's worst about 5 years back when certain companies essentially set up strip shows rather than show a product.
It's a good thing it's dead, and yes, something will end up replacing it. Potentially something open to the public. Take a look at the companies that are bringing demos to PAX this year, for instance.

Ahhh PAX I was gonna go but um yeah Kumori con takes precedence. Sorry to hear about E3 but I dunno it seems stuff like that they would invite the public consumer seeing as the product they are developing is for the public consumer so who else better to test it then the public consumer. If you can ever get up here to WA you should come to PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) I have heard it's great for gaming, in fact I dunno if it was the first year but a few years back they gave away $10,000 worth of gaming systems and games to go with them. They had like a drawing for prereggers and it was totally random somethign like 50 people and they had to play games and beat it to the next level and I think the last game was Halo or something like it and the winner from that got the all the systems. It was cool. Anyways this year is supposed to be bigger and Optimus rhyme will be playing, kinda wanted to go hear them but oh well. Anyyyywaaaays if you ever get a chance you should attend it I have heard great things. And the guys in charge of it are real nice, met them at Sakura con at the Penny Arcade booth.

You refer to the Omegathon, the ultimate challenge of gaming. 20 randomly selected participants compete in 6 rounds of widely varying gaming activities (DDR and Karaoke Revolution featured in years past), and not all of them are video games, this year's games are: Round 1 - Dice Land Round 2 - Geometry Wars Round 3 - Quake II Round 4 - Guitar Hero Round 5 - Mario Kart DS Round 6 - **TOP SECRET**
The past two Top Secrets have been Pong and Combat, so expect something similarly old-school this year.
Oh, and the prize this year is an Xbox 360, and a fully loaded Scion xB
