I usually lurk, but I ran into a problem yesterday and solved it today. I searched the forum but didn't find anything on it (probably searched wrong terms, but that's another story...) I thought my experience might help other beginners.
Background: I've gotten to where I can reliably get AAs on Light on DDR Max 2.
Yesterday I finally got a widescreen LCD HDTV. It was great until I tried to play DDR, when suddenly I was getting BAD and ALMOST where I had been getting GREAT and PERFECT . Googling turned up the info that the problem appears to be a timing lag caused by the HD processing. [Why didn't I check before I got the TV? Not a big gamer and had no idea I NEEDED to check--oh well.]
My first try at fixing this was to adjust the timing delay in the PS2 all the way up (+16 in DDR Max 2). This got me up to GOOD and GREAT, but no PERFECTs and way too many ALMOSTs.
Then I tried switching to a component cable. That helped a bit more (timing still maxed), so I was getting a lot of PERFECTs and GREATs. But, I tried one of my best songs and it still seemed I was scoring low.
As a last resort, I switched the PS2 audio output from going into my TV to going into the AUX on my surround sound system. The idea was to bypass the audio portion of the HD processing delay. Doing this required a couple of RCA extension cables. That did the trick--now the audio timing is perfect (and the video timing is close enough for rock and roll ;D ) and on my best songs I'm back to what I was scoring before, when I was using my old standard definition CRT TV.
Hope this helps someone else, as I expect some folks may see a new HDTV for the holidays...
