So for you guys who follow other boards - What's the word about the upcoming new DDR for PS2? Is DDR X really the name? Any info on what to expect?

Thanks for the link. Guessing this is probably about the last DDR we'll get out of our PS2s. Which may not be a bad thing, to move on....

interesting that they're bringing back the eye toy feature. Perhapses to compete with the wii? LAN battles is interesting as well.... It will be a good feature for university and high school clubs.... maybe for the schools who have set up DDR in their physical education program.

Thanks for the link. Guessing this is probably about the last DDR we'll get out of our PS2s. Which may not be a bad thing, to move on.... I'm not so sure on that point. My rough guess would say that 95% of the DDR fan-base has a PS2, and you really don't need any more horsepower to play the game. Assuming licensing costs for PS2 software are declining, and you still reliably sell a print run of X units, it's likely to be more profitable to keep the series on PS2 for as long as possible. The real key is going to be how long Gamestop (and other sellers) continue to stock PS2 games. Once there aren't any more retail outlets to sell the game, it'll likely jump platforms. Of course, being a niche market, it could end up like the Dreamcast, which had SHMUPS (Shoot-'em-ups) made for it and commercially released up through last year.

OK so I ordered DDR X today for my good old PS2! Hoping it's good, saw some of the song list that looked pretty decent. SN2 was such a disappointment...

They're saying that the Lego Batman PS2 Bundle will be the last effective bundle and then the PS2 is essentially dead. My friend who works at GameStop said that as of 2009, all PS2 development will stop and Sony will move all assets to PS3 and PSP support. I can believe your guess that 95% of DDR Players are PS2 owners (me included, but I also have a Wii). When the system officially dies, it'd be interesting to see which console will get most of the DDR faithful.

Yes, but that's the system, not the software. And that's for In-house PS2 development, not for third party or for licensing/software certification. Like I said before, Dreamcast third-party software development was ongoing until a little earlier this year. It's conceivable that someone could continue to develop dance games for the PS2. Not likely, but conceivable.
The more likely scenario is for it to shift to a downloadable content model. Then you only have to prgoram the engines once for each console, and release mini-packs of songs. The Guitar Hero/RockBand model, if you will.

And then the unlocking... Ugh! Yeah, I hate that because I'm not good enough to just burn through those crazy games. The plan is to call my DDR-fanatic college kid to come home for a weekend and get him to unlock all the songs for me!

And I can agree with you about Konami continuing DDR support so long as PS2s are still marketable (even if Sony stops developing). I remember seeing PSOne games a few years after the PS2 took off (even if they weren't made by Sony). I also like the idea of the download service. Although, with the Wii, unless they announce a reliable storage solution, I don't see it happening.

I would have got more DDR games but that is the only one they had at Wal-Mart >_> Guess I need to go to Fred Meyers =P Order it from Wal-Mart's website and have it sent directly to your store. "Site-To-Store," I think it's called. Shipping's free too. I'm pretty sure they have older iterations of the DDR Franchise for the PS2 on the website. I know they accept Gift Cards because it's how I bought Electroplankton from them without a Credit Card. I just bought a card and put however much I needed on it. Anyways, yeah, visit the Wal-Mart website and see what you can find. Although, checking other Brick-and-Mortar Shops like Fred Meyer isn't a bad idea. Glad you're having fun on X. I'm still playing SuperNova 1.

What are the suprnova ones like? I know they have two of those at Fred Meyers and was tempted to get one. Some of DDRX's moves are so fast lol it's fun to play! I even got my fiance to play it with me a few times ^_^
And that is a great idea with the gift card! I was reading your post thinking, "Blah I can't use my credit cards right now" and then you mentioned the gift card thing xD

In my opinion, SuperNova 1 is the best DDR game (song selection-wise) to come out in recent memory, that I've played leastways (I can't say for SuperNova 2 or X though because I haven't tried them yet), but it doesn't have the LAN features or the "shock arrows" that I know X has. Every DDR game will have songs with fast moves (going back to the PSOne iterations), so it all really boils down to what songs move you and what music you can enjoy most.

OK I know I always say every new DDR game seems easier in difficulty than the one before and everybody always says it's 'cuz you get better, but no, I don't think so this time. This is the first DDR PS2 game that has over-10-footers-- so I thought they would be super crazy unachievable songs, harder than the old 10-footers -- but, I could right away, first time, run through the 11-12-footers and pass them with a B or C. I even cleared Soul Crash, 13-ft, first time. That just isn't right, I am *not* that good. I mean, I still can't pass some 9-10's on Maxx or Maxx2.
I know some of the other games have had the higher levels for awhile. So does anybody have any insight to how they figure these difficulty levels in DDR? Is a 10 supposed to be a 10 on any game, or is the 13 now the difficulty of the old 10?

Like every game I get, I don't like it at first then I start unlocking the better songs and I really like it now. Even though the announcer I think is the worst of any DDR PS2 game (just consider him a joke and have some laughs) and Streetmaster Mode is even lamer than HyperMaster was in SN2. I could unlock songs way faster just playing in regular game mode. I still think the difficulty of most songs is overrated, but mix of songs is pretty good, something for everyone and the stepcharts seem pretty well done. They make sense and they are fun. One song I finally decided I really like is Saber Wing (Tag). It has a few odd stops in it but it's fun because it's different. Offhand I can't remember any other DDR song done in 3/4 time. Somebody did a YouTube of the songlist if you want to spend the time... www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAEHk-05Ulw
