I absolutely love soymilk. I became a vegetarian during the summer and have fallen in love with the product. It's almost sad how much milk and cereal pleases me. Now, I will say that soymilk does not really taste like milk, but I certainly could not imagine going back.

Haha! If only you knew. Life is made best for me when things are simple. I figure simple pleasures are the best kind because everyone can enjoy. Oh well. Time to hit the mat!

my college offers all three flavors of silk and lactaid. I drink chocolate silk usually. Good stuff.

When I lived with my mom she used to buy this chocolate soy milk... it tasted terrible. She got into this whole organic thing, and would come home grocery shopping with half the products organic, while the other half were chips, pop, pudding and cookies. Makes no sense to me. I found an image you guys might like about this, I found it on the Ad Busters website. Those milk commercials creep me out anyways.

Wow I can't believe I missed this thread. I love soy milk. I buy tons of Silk... mostly the unsweetened kind. I'm a fan of the "beaniness".

I tend to avois milk in general, I don't know what it is about the taste but I don't care for it. Milk and cheerios however, that's where its at... I take a vitamin supplement so I still get the proper nutrients. I also eat tons of fruit and vegetables, I've been crazy over broccoli since I was old enough to chew. Bean milk just doesn't do it for me though

Have you tried rice milk? Or almond milk? Those might work for you. They're less common, though.

I'm vegan and I can't stand soy milk. I think it tastes like paint.
I like almond milk and rice milk, though. <3

I'm not sure that people really understand nature. If we were meant to drink milk past infancy, our mothers would still be breastfeeding us. (Yeah, I know... GROSS) Why would that be any different drinking the milk of a cow? or goat for that matter?
Cows were not put on this earth for humans to suckle. As CRAZY AND ZANY as this may sound, the milk a mother cow produces is for a baby cow to grow strong bones, gain a ton of weight, get all fat and have baby cows.
Is that what humans want to do? Yeah. Try an alternative. Please, for the love of the COW!

i bought a quart of Silk, the vanilla kind, and it really isnt that bad. i think i might drink it as an alternative to milk. (although it is a bit more expensive than regular milk.)

silk's very vanilla soymilk is the bestest!!! its quite sweet - sweet enough to satisfy a junk food craving.
it tastes GREAT in coffee (no sugar needed).
and it has more calcium and other vitamins in it than regular soymilk.
animal products in general are bad for you because cholesterol, added hormones, antibiotics and what not.
try cutting down on animal producs or try going vegetarian or vegan. vegetarianism and veganism are much healthier ways to live and these diets are naturally lower in calories and fat too!
NO human should ever drink cows milk (unless youre willing to get under the udder and suck - and if you do that please post a picture of it!) i say if you're a human and you want some milk, get it from a human breast.

Boys & men should highly limit soy consumption. Even small amounts raise estrogen levels quite a bit (theres a reason they recommend soy to older women). This could equal loss of muscle mass & slowing of metabolism along with a host of other problems if you consume alot.
Personally I think its silly humans are the only animal on earth that drink any sort of milk into adulthood & add onto it drink another animals milk(it just wasnt designed for us!). In some people cow milk consumption has shown to stall weight loss & even cause weight gain (most likely due to lactose, which is a natural sugar your body digests very quickly) others it helps in weight loss.
Personally, I limit my milk (and milk alternatives)consumption to almost nothing.

sorry this is an old thread, but I've been reading a lot about cow's milk lately from notmilk.com - thought I'd post the link for others who are interested.

I posted a reply in the meat alternative thread and I have a similar opinion for this thread. It's amazing how much vegetarians use meat and diary substitutes in cans, packs and boxes. Soy milk is no exception. Silk and other non dairy milks from grocery stores are akin to drinking evaporated canned milk. If you've ever had a chance to try fresh soy milk you'd find a great difference. I actually don't care for fresh, pure soy milk. It's got a very sharp soy flavor and it's not sweet at all. Be careful with soy milks if you're watching your calorie intake or if you're trying to avoid syrupy sugars. Even pure sugar syrups that aren't made from corn syrups like the brown rice syrup found in many milk substitutes are high in calories and can be a hidden source of weight gain if you're not careful.
The only word of warning I really ever have for vegetarians other than there is no ideal diet for the world and all it's inhabitants is that getting your main sources of nutrition from boxes, cans and plastic packs isn't the best source of nutrition because it's just not fresh. All meat, milk and cheese substitutes are shelf stable convenience foods.
This applies to real dairy as well. All milk in American grocery stores are heat pasturized and packages. The nutritive value of raw milk isn't all that disputable but raw milk is hard if not impossible to come by. If I had to choose to eliminate something from my diet entirely, I would choose to abstain fully from shelf stable meats, fish, vegetables and dairy. I'd stick with farm fresh foods, fresh made tofus and soy produces and fresh meats. The only things I'd get from a bottle are a few favored condiments. In a perfect world, but for now I just avoid highly processed foods as much as I can without going crazy or putting friends and family out with really great results.

apparently soya milk has something called isoflavins..not sure if that's the right spelling, anyway it's suppose to replace nutriants lost in middle age i think, the ones that keep you young and maintain hormone balance etc.....
