So I just found out that I am allergic to milk, so I had to switch to soy milk. It actually isnt that bad. Cows milk isnt healthy to begin with, for adults. It should only be drank by kids and if adults drink it, it should be skim. What do you people think about this??

Define "isn't that bad" for me. I've been curious about soy milk for a while now, but haven't had the guts to try it (yes, I'm a coward). I've read some fairly compelling writing about how milk, even skim, is bad for you. It's based more on the fact that milk is used by all mammals to sustain their young only to the point of being able to eat food on their own, and that each species' milk is chemically balanced to be consumed by that species only. I have no idea how scientifically valid all of that is, but ti seems to make common sense to me.
So, is "isn't that bad" the same as "I can't taste a difference" or "I can tolerate this" or "it tastes completely different than milk, but it's kinda tasty on it's own". I've tried soy butter, which I like, and soy cheese, which I can't stand. Maybe I'll pick up some Silk next time I hit the grocery store.

I tried some vanilla Silk (brand name) yesterday. Not bad. There's a definite different taste than regular milk, though I don't know if that's the vanilla flavoring. Tasted a little like an unsweetened, melted McDonalds shake. I haven't tried it with cereal yet.

I use that silk brank. There is a regular, vanilla, chocolate, and an unsweetend. The regular in the red box is the best tasting with cereal IMO. I dont really like vanilla taste in my cereal.

It actually wasn't too bad in cereal, but I eat Smart Start (chick cereal, I know) so YMMV. My In-Laws came into town this past weekend, and my mother in law brought some coffee flavored Silk (they apparently have it in the single serving bottles). Now that's some good stuff.

I once put chocolate milk on my cocoa puffs. It was a chocolate overload and I died.
Water would definetly be the most healthy thing to put on cereal. But I have to have my soy milk.
I want to try rice milk to see how that taste too.

I was born lactose intolerant and my mom almost died when she was born from it. Over the years i slowly became more tolerant to it but i still have to be careful. I tend to shy away from milk alternatives after having to drink "lacteeze" for the first few years of my life. It tastes like sugary garbage. I'll have to look into this soy "milk" though. Sounds like it might be interesting ;D Be aware that there are 2 types of intolerance. One is that you can't digest lactose (milk sugar) which makes you immediately go to the bathroom, the other is that you can't digest the proteins in it, which makes you not be able to go to the bathroom easily. and yes you can be allergic to both the sugar and the protein but, its harder to tell then for obvious reasons

I am actually allergic to it. I can digest it fine, but I had a blood alergy test done not too long ago for my migranes and Cows milk was the higest thing on the list of things tested.

I'm vegan (no meat, no dairy, no eggs, no animal anything hehe) so I've done a bit of research on the whole soymilk vs. milk thing. There really isn't much good to say about cows milk come to think of it. It's just not really that healthy and there are many other available sources of calcium that are much better for you anyway Anyway, at first I couldn't stand the taste of soymilk and I've only recently started drinking it. I've found you can hardly taste the beaniness if you put it in a milkshake with some soy icecream and fruit. I live in Australia but I've heard the best brands of soymilk in the US are Silk and 8th Continent. Everyone swears by them

At one time soy milk was thought to be very healthy but recent things I have read indicate its not all that healthy. I dont drink it so I have researched it alot..but you may want to do an internet search to get current research.

Can I just put in a good word for cow's milk? Allergies aside, I really think dairy products are a good thing for humans. I've drunk skim milk my whole life, but I recently found a brand that tastes so yummy that I want to tell every one about it. It's called Horizon Organic. www.horizonorganic.com/I've been able to drink skim and it tastes like 2% to me. No more water with a white crayon dipped in it, this stuff is yummy. On Weight Watchers, part of the plan is to eat at least two servings of dairy products each day. I used to fulfill those requirements with cheese, but now I can drink milk and enjoy it again. Imagine me doing a happy dance to Love Shine, drinking milk. Ok, stop imagining... it's freaking me out...

Soy milk from what I've seen has fat. (I haven't found skim soy milk yet... I've tried chocolate Silk though.)
Also, even though I've tried some flavors, the beaniness always gets to me, and I can't stand that flavor in a drink. I'm fine with tofu though...
