I know I keep beating this drum, but there's now even more evidence that short-duration, high-intensity exercise is better for weight loss and health than LSD (Long, slow distance) jogging. Link to article hereA few good quotes: "After 12 weeks, researchers found that the body fat percentage in the soccer players dropped by 3.7 percent, compared to about 2 percent for the joggers. The soccer players also increased their muscle mass by almost 2 kilograms (4.5 pounds), whereas the joggers didn't have any significant change. " and "'The argument as to whether or not vigorous activity is better than moderate activity is over,' O'Donovan said." Again, what does this mean for DDR? Kick up the difficulty, kick up the BPM, and push yourself hard for fewer songs. 5x10-footers beats 10x5-footers.

Great article, abrannan! Here's a link to the University of Copenhagen News site, where the study came from. "The sports scientist believes that it is the shifts between walking, running and sprinting that causes the soccer players to experience better health improvements. " "When you sprint, jump and tackle your opponents, you use all the fibres in your muscles. When you jog at a moderate pace, you only use the slow fibres, says Peter Krustrup" The article also mentioned that the participants found soccer to be more enjoyable than jogging, which would also be true of DDR vs. jogging.
