I might be getting into a bad area with this one, as I've yet to see a post ( on other forums ) about this that hasn't ended up in a total flame war. But I think people here are more mature than that and can handle the opinions of others, so here it goes.
Which next-gen console do you think is going to be the best? Which one, if any one at all, do you think is going to go down in defeat and just flop?
Mostly what I've heard is that Nintendo is going to suck and XBOX is going to be the awesomenest thing since cheese-in-a-can. But I want your opinions, and why you think that way. So what's it going to be: Nintendo Revolution, Playstation 3, or XBOX 360?

Right now, from the information released so far, I see Sony as really behind the 8-ball. They're talking $400-ish for the console (With no useless "core" version to point to to allay concerns about the price). It'll be blu-ray, when a lot of the other major players have decided to go HD-DVD, so you won't have the "but it's a DVD player" angle as much, which I think was a major sales driver for the PS2.
I also don't think that graphics improvements will be as big of a driver this generation. Graphics are already so complex that it's driven development times through the roof, you can't just draw 50 frames of 8-bit sprite animation anymore. Gameplay, exclusives, and online support will be the kings of this generation. Nintendo has the proven track record with gameplay and gameplay innovation. Xbox has the online experience finely tuned at this point. It's all going to come down to the Revolution controller, and how well people accept a major paradigm shift with their game controllers.
As for me, I'll be buying none of them for the time being. I may pick up an Xbox once the price drop from the 360 release hits. I'll definitely be fleshing out my library of PS2 titles. I don't see me getting any of the next generation consoles for at least 3-4 years at this point.

Mostly what I've heard is that Nintendo is going to suck I don't think anyone even has enough information about the Revolution to TRY and say it sucks. However, I will most likely be buying all of them once the first wave goes by, as the first wave is always buggy and not perfected. However, I will be buying the most expensive one last, and probably the Revolution first due to its backward compatability.

Revolution first due to its backward compatability. Backward compatibility is a bit of a misnomer here, from what I've read. The Revolution will have classic games available for it, much like the GBA has, but it won't be backward compatible in the way that the PS2 is backward compatible with the PS1 (You use the cartridges and discs you've already bought to play in a newer machine). Yes, they'll be downloadable, but you'll still have to purchase the Super Mario Brothers download, even if you've got the NES cartridge, the SNES all-stars cart, and the GBA cart. Of course, it could be different than that, I haven't been following the Rev. as closely as I could be.

Nor have I, but thus far I am under the same impression. They will be downloads that you can purchase and save to memory. When I came to find that out I thought it was crap...but...nintendo never did have backwards compatability save for their handheld systems, so I'm used to it. With the design of the DS cartrige(more like chip) my guess is next time they develope a new handheld, they will have to phaze out GBA cartriges just as they have phazed out the original gameboy cartriges on the ds.
I don't need backwards compatibility with it anyways... I have a dreamcast and a computer. XD

Oh yes, this I already knew, Abrann. Emulators and the such can only do so much, because the control is so much tighter with a controller, which is what I desire.
Anyway, the jury's still a toss up for me, but as I mentioned, I have quite some time to debate because first wave consoles are buggy...

Emulators and the such can only do so much, because the control is so much tighter with a controller, which is what I desire. Emulators can be run on more than PCs, and PCs can be controlled by more than the keyboard. Remind me to post pics of "Project BOX" sometime to illustrate my point. For what you get for the money, yes, Dreamcast rules, but it is limited in the good, full speed emulators available for it.

yay :-). I'm glad to see that some people don't think nintendo is going to up and die. Lots of people are dissing the Nintendo right now, but when you stop to think of it, lots of people have always dissed Nintendo whenever they come out with something new. And it always rocks face. And yeah, Nintendo always has had the weird controller, which usually turns out to be good. I wouldn't have expected anybody to pick the PS3 for a flop, but hey, it was backed up with some pretty good reasoning. The only thing I ever use my PS2 for is DDR, which means I won't be concerned with getting a PS3. I don't even own an XBOX because I despise Microsoft, and so the only reason that I'm looking forward to the 360 release is so that the regular XBOX will price drop and I can go get it for cheap. I like XBOX DDR, so it'll be cool to play that :-). The Nintendo Revolution will probably be the only console I get, but I won't get one until after they've worked out all of bugs and made all of the improvements that they're going to.
So up front, I'll be buying none of the consoles when they release. And if they decide to take Twilight Princess and put it on the Revolution, I will smash somebody's face in. X-O!!!

nintendo revolution is gonna suck cus of the new controllers Yeah, Nintendo's got such a bad track record when it comes to controller innovation. I mean, look at all of the things they've tried that were never picked up mainstream. Analog sticks, shoulder buttons, trigger buttons, rumble packs, the D-pad, start and select buttons on the controllers rather than the on the console, RF wireless, the dance mat, the light gun. I can see where your level of doubt comes from. I know, you're young and you don't remember the earliest consoles. Heck, you probably don't remember anything earlier than the Playstation. Yeah, I can remember the past time I pulled out a PS1 game to play that wasn't DDR. 90% of games have a very limited lifespan. Yeah, you might dig out an old Mario game every once in a while, but the majority of your time is spent on the latest and greatest. Try harder

Xbox 360 is backwards compatible, you don't need to buy the games again. It won't be every single game (which ps2 and ps3 don't play ALL ps1 games) But they have stated that there will be backwards compatibility with a lot of the higher selling games, with more and more available through xbox live later.

What I'm worried about - is will UM1 and UM2 and UM3 be backwards compatible??!! OMG I would cry if not. AND OMG! TETRIS WORLDS PLZ! I KNOW that halo2 and rainbow 6 will be...and probably those popular racing games...ummm..forza motor sport, and what...burnout probably...Am I right in assuming that we will need to purchase something extra to make them backwards compatibe...I though I read that a while ago... Why they wouldn't make all games backwards compatible is beyond me.. Seriously - I'm gonna blow up my house with all these friggin consoles I have plugged in everywhere.
OMG I saw a preview for DOOM last night! AHAHAHAHAH omg - starring the ROCK! ahahahahahahahaha!

Ummmm. I<3sonysorrydon'thurtme. I'll want the Revolution as well though. Yum, Zelda! I <3 Sony, too. I just think they're sitting behind the 8-ball so far on this generation's consoles. Sony can still win the war with solid exclusive titles (Something I think Xbox has been lacking outside of Halo) and a reasonable facsimilie of the Live online experience. They've just been pretty thin on details so far, and what details they've revealed (Blu-ray) are shaping up to be a Betamax sized calamity.
