im pretty sure that's a bad idea, you'd be missing out on a lot of nutrients needed in life... but you would lose weight..

What would happen if i just ate grapefruit and water for a month straight. Does anyone think that will drop lbs fast? Im desperate. Geez, that has to be one of the worst things you can do for yourself. Yes, you're going to lose weight if you only eat graoefruit for a month, but you're going to make yourself very ill (if you even make it a month). Permanent weight loss isn't instant. You just had a baby, you're allowed to have some extra pudge. Besides, your son needs a mom who is full of energy to take care of him, not someone who is tired all the time and it risking becoming seriously ill. Your body isn't used to working out. Tale advantage of it! If you want, start playing DDR or find another exercise. This is a great time for your body to lose weight, since building up stamina again will burn you hella calories. But for the love of God, find yourself a suitable diet. You need to be PATIENT. Maybe try vegetarianism along with a vitamin supplement; you have to find whats going to work for you. The majority of weight loss is proper diet, but without that you're a) not going to lose weight or b) become a limp noddle due to lack of energy. Just remember if you keep working at it you will see results. Just be patient. You can eat all the grapefruit in the world and still not wake up thinner tommorow.

I'm not too accurate when it comes to this but I'm fairly certain that's a dumb thing to do.

If you've got the time, search way back in the archives for the posts xstatic made about the apple diet. If I remember right, the apple diet had her eating primarily apples (and apple related items like applesauce and cider) first and then other foods if she was still hungry later. After a week she was so sick of apples that I'm not even sure she eats them to this day, and the weight loss was middling at best. Take that and multiply it by 100 for what a grapefruit and water diet would be like.
You'll still be miserable, you'll be hungry, and your body, in response to you not getting enough calories, will slow your metabolism *WAY* down to preserve what energy reserves you have left (i.e. whatever fat you have on your body). It'll sacrifice muscle in order to do this, so you'll get weaker as the month progresses. You'll be using the bathroom more, since the grapefruit is essentially fiber and water, and what comes out will be green from the overabundance of Vitamin C. At the end of the month, when you do finally start eating food, your body's response will be to build back up a large energy reserve so that if the famine comes along again, it'll have enough energy to keep you alive. To this end it'll keep your metabolism low, and build up that fat as fast as it can.
Vivid enough picture?
Compare it to this: You keep up your vegetarian diet, cutting out the "white" starches (potatoes, rice, bread and sugar) and anything fried if they're there, and adding in a handful of good nuts (almonds, walnuts, basically anything but peanuts and cashews) every day. You get back on the DDR mat, set it to fail only at end of song, and push yourself up to songs that leave you breathless at the end (make sure to get your heart rate back down between songs, we're looking for a "wind sprint" kind of workout, not torture), and don't worry about the scores or letter grades. When you give your son play time, even if he's not crawling yet, you mimic his every move (it's a fantastic workout, particularly for your lower back if he's at the "lift my arms and legs off the floor while lying on my stomach" stage). Here's how your body will respond to that:
It recognizes that at periods during the day you'll need to draw on bursts of energy (Hey, it doesn't know if you're chasing down a wildebeest or trying to pass MAX300), so it'll make sure to keep a ready supply of free energy available. Since your blood sugar level is under control (by passing on the "whites"), it'll have to draw on your stored energy reserves, so it'll convert some fat to ready energy. It's not worried about long term survival since there's a reasonable amount of fuel coming in. This'll essentially increase your metabolism, which will leave you feeling energized and "fresh". Your body will also pump out endorphins to manage the little aches and pains of the workout, which act as a natural mood enhancer. The time you spend playing/working out with your son will create an even stronger bond (if that's possible).

I'm pretty sure your body would go into starvation mode. And someone mentioned you having a baby; if you're still breastfeeding, that requires many calories

I knew a girl in highschool who had a diet like this, she wanted to make sure she lost atleast 10 pounds before prom. She was very tiny as it was, better I never noticed a change in her size when prom came around. I don't think it worked out for her. =[

Bad idea... eating just one thing will make you sick. A tip though - NEVER SKIP BREAKFAST. Ever. Eat fruit and nuts. Watermelon's delicious.
