Okay...I weigh 260 and I'm 15 (yes I'm one of our generation's kids nutured by mother tv and father couch)
I dance a song on my xbox ultramix 1, and sometimes it says I've burned up 50 calories.
That sounds like an awful lot, am I really burning up that much? It's hard to believe I can get on a treadmill for ten minutes and burn up 30 calories while dancing for 3 burning up twice as much.

I wouldn't rely too heavily on it Instead set workout mode to like, 30-45 minutes songtime and do light aerobic style songs in the end itll say youve burned like 400-500 calories. and the DDR counts calories by stepping, the treadmill just brings a set number for a set time, so you could well be doing way more than 30 on a treadmill, i dont really know though. just do it timed, much more reliable

Really the calorie counter in DDR is only useful to compare two workouts in DDR. If you do 10 heavy songs and it says you've burnt 400 calories, you can compare tomorrow when you do 15 standard songs and it says 400 calories. Otherwise there are jsut too many factors involved to accurately count calories from your workout. It doesn' tmeasure heart rate, it doesn't care how much your arms are moving, or how hard you're stomping.

Just trying to gauge. Would you say it over or under estimates the calories burned. Hint: I do not want to hear over. haha

For most people, over. But if you're a light player who's gasping for air over a four foot song, flailing your arms about, it's probably a bit under for you.

I don't know if it helps at all, but when I play workout mode I set my weight 15 lbs less than I actually am in case the calorie counter is over. That way even if it is under, I won't overestimate how many calories Ive burned. Plus I get to be 15 lbs closer to my target weight for the session... in my mind, anyways

50 seems high to me for your weight, but not impossible. That's a rate of about 34 cals/minute (assuming a 90 second song - this one might be longer), which would be equivalent to running at 10 mph for that amount of time for your weight. Do you feel like you are doing the same amount of work as if you were sprinting?
I weigh about 20 pounds more than you and on the most difficult heavy songs I'll sometimes get 35 cals from one song. A typical song will be 15-25. These seem like fairly reasonable numbers and are more than accurate enough to use if you are tracking calories out. I shoot for 300 calories of DDR exercise a day. If this is actually 250 or 350, I'm not that concerned. It's in the ballpark, and that's good enough for me

Just a question - does ultramix track claories per song like max2, so you can see the avg calories you get from the song? I like knowing I can get 55 DDR CALS on So Deep, for instance

I tend to run 3-5 miles every morning, and the thing I normally do is take the calories the thingy says, add 100 CaloriesXHow many Miles(3 miles=300 calories) to it, and then divide by two. Example- I ran 3 miles this morning. The thingy said 500 calories, I add 300 to it, divide by two, and then I get my number of 400 calories.
With DDR, I take it with a bit of a grain of salt because, well, you know how your foot can hit an arrow a few times more than it should, the song can fluctuate calories per time(So Deep can range from 49 to 60), so I tend to do about... 40 songs and just go off of that.
