It seems to me that a lot of people on these threads focus are primarily focused on that of the body. Many believe the body will lead to happiness or even some sort of spiritual vindication. But I ask all of you, are we not the sum of all our parts? Does not the body's weight match that of our soul? A heavy souls often requires solutions that go far beyond an excercise routine? How can we excercise our souls and our body? After all, is not the mind and body one? We often look to solutions that benefit one or the other without really trying to find something that may sate both as a unified and collective whole. There is more to it than one or the other. Perhaps that is the answer. Perhaps if we look towards a way to make the two healthy as one. Well, I admit, this rhetorical ride is a bit given to the abstract, but I dare say that one thing America has lost is its penchant for the mystical and abstract. Gone are the days of the undefined and illogical sense of self, gone are the days of belief; a surrender to the unconscience and belief that our instincts and our will simply defined as human will protect us and guide as it is needed. We put too much stock into the beliefs of others and deny our ownselves. Supersize Me? Supersize my spirit as well, the answer lies also within how we think and feel and not just what we eat... A human is more than a body... That is all I am saying, think about it, chew on it (no pun intended). Tell me what you think. Physical health is a derivative of our spiritual health.

While I disagree with the specific statement "Physical health is a derivitave of our spiritual health" I agree with the overall sentiment that mental and physical health are not discrete. To me, spirituality is a means to mental health, and by mental health I'm referring to a positive self-image, high self-esteem, and a sense of purpose in life. I do not believe that it's necessary to have a belief in the mystical to achieve good mental health, but that is one avenue that works for many people. And on a lighter note, about this quote "Does not the body's weight match that of our soul?" No, the soul weighs 28 grams, I saw it in a movie once.

I totally agree with you Allie. The soul and body are so connected, and a lot of people don't realize it. They mirror each other. A healthy mind and a healthy body are very important. A fit, good looking body can't always change how you feel.
