I don't know if you have access to a pool or not, but swimming is the best exercise, hands down (IMO). You get a good cardio workout, strengthening from the water resistance, and it's low impact on your joints. I know this involves being in a bathing suit, but you can put an undershirt or a tshirt on if you are uncomfortable being shirtless.
My pads are going batty as well . . . I'm just going to invest in another soft pad and mod it until I'm in my new apartment and can get a good metal pad for myself.

It's kind of boring, but we have a mini trampoline and my hubby runs on it while watching TV. It's cheaper than a treadmill or any of those fancy-pants macines.
I know you said you didn't like to run, but there is less impact on a trampoline.

Don't forget the classics:
Jumping rope (absolutely brutal if you haven't done it in a while, a nice heavy rope gives you a good upper body workout as well)
Jumping jacks (there are almost as may way of doing jumping jacks as there are pushups)
Bike riding (don't coast)

My other favorite cardio workout besides ddr is water aerobics - deep water!
Also, brisk walks with my walkman are fun.

Tae-Bo is a really effective full body cardio workout, not too hard to learn, and fun! He just came out with a Tae-Bo Bootcamp DVD set that looks like it burns a lot of calories fast (my mom and I ordered it recently but I have yet to try it), or you can get one or two of his older videos. It's probably good to do Tae-Bo 3-4 days a week that way you pick up the movements.
I agree that swimming and jumproping are some of the best cardio workouts you could do as well. Brisk walking never hurts either.
A diet tip: grapefruit or grapfruit juice before two of your meals (at least) aids in burning calories =)

Really? What kind of medications? (I should just look it up but I'm just getting home from work and am kinda tired.) I think most of them make it pretty clear... a friend of mine had a back pain perscription and it had a big picture of a grapefruit on the bottle saying "Do not ingest grapefruit with this medication!" I'd die if I couldn't eat grapefruit, it's one of my favourites... pineapple is in a close second

I'd die if I couldn't eat grapefruit, it's one of my favourites... pineapple is in a close second I figured they would make it clear, but I was wondering what kind of medical conditions that you'd need to take meds for that would make you unable to eat grapefruit . . . and then I started wondering about what in the chemical make-up of the drugs would cause it to react with the grapefruit, and what the effects on your person would be. Now I'm too curious, so I'm just looking it up myself. UJKitten Edit: www.drugstore.com/qxa1547_333181_sespider-i_heard_that_grapefruit_juice_can_interfere_with_some_medicines__is_this_true.htm

Statins (anti-cholesterol drugs like Liptor) are one class that interacts poorly with grapefruit. Essentially, the grapefruit blocks a chemical in your intestines that breaks down the medicines, which can lead to higher levels of the medicine in your blood.
