Um, where did you hear that from? As far as I know, no, fasting isn't healthy for you. Actually it's bad if you keep it up. What will happen after a few days of fasting, is anything you eat after that your body will immediately turn to fat because it thinks it's starving. Plus, your metabolism will permanently slow down.

It definitely does look interesting, but if you're interested in long-term weight loss, you simply can't remove all sources of energy from your diet for any period of time and expect to lose weight. Your body will shut down it's metabolism, and when you do start eating again, you will have to deal with an extra-slow metabolism, even if you just fast for a few days. I checked out the site, and it seemed to be more about spirituality and connectedness to God than about weight loss. I would suggest you look at your reasons for wanting to try it, and if weight loss is the primary goal, I would stick to diet modifcation and exercise. Besides, fasting as a method of weight loss is too close to anorexia for me. *shudders* If you do decide to go ahead with it, be careful! And talk to your doctor before your start. Please!!!

These are quotes taken from that website...
"Managing weight can only be achieved through a healthy diet, in other words, eating."
"Never incorporate fasting as your primary source of weight management. "
"You will continue to lose weight on a raw diet. In fact you may lose it faster, especially if most of your food is vegetables." - Well duh, you'll lose weight is you eat nothing but vegetables to begin with.
" You have fasted for 30 days and eaten raw for 15, and never felt better."
Not eat for 30 days and only eat vegetables for 15? Yea, ok....
I think it's safe to say this isn't a healthy way of living, at all. Before you decide to try a "diet plan" like this, research it's health benefits first.

That site seems to be full of a lot of spiritual advice, but very thin on scientific/medical backing. There are a lot of references to "feelings of delirium" (low blood sugar), "dizziness" (They say it's because your heart's resting, but in reality your body is in an extreme survival mode). They also advise going against medical advice if the Holy Spirit calls you to water:
"It is not advisable to water fast under the conditions of hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, schizophrenia or a chronic heart condition—but God rules over hyperglycemia, diabetes, schizophrenia and chronic heart conditions. Hence, if you are called by the Holy Spirit to go on a water fast, in spite of how foolish it may seem to the world, we encourage you to be obedient."
That concerns me deeply. Please talk to a doctor or other medical professional about the true effects of a sustained water fast. You aren't going to lose weight any faster (no pun intended) and you will run the risk of serious harm to your body.

Starvation of any form, be it semi-starvation via dieting or full starvation from fasting, is unhealthy and extremely DANGEROUS for you. Think about it. What will your body 'eat' when you don't provide it with calories? Muscle. Muscle is the easiest thing the body can 'eat', which is why losing weight, even by conventional ways (proper diet and excersise) are so difficult. When you fast, your body slows down everything in order to preserve bodily functions, you know, silly things like breathing and your heart pumping, etc. The fat deposits on your body are there for these times, but again, the body can 'eat' muscle much easier than fat. THE FAT IS THE LAST THING TO BE USED UP IN A FASTING SITUATION.
Why the huge rush for weight loss? You didn't gain it all in 3 weeks, so it's not going to come off in 3 weeks either. Remember that 95% of the people who go on even a reduced calorie diet gain all the weight back and many gain more. Adopting a lifestyle of healthy eating and moderate excersise is the best way to go.
Sorry for the nutrition science major rant. ;D
