Because curse words are censored, here we go...
Fellow patrons of GetUpMove: During the Break time of the Spring my only activity was the occasional DDR and though enjoyable I was far too often vacant from atop the pad to have any sort of effect on what I took into my system. I ate and ate and ate, then at the end of my recess I weighed myself to much dismay... I gained 5 pounds. Water weight? Possibly. Binge eating? Most definitely.
Lament of laments, oh rue of rues... Do not let Spring Break effect you so grandly, chums.

I know exactly what you mean. My thing right now though is to ddr every day for at least an hour, and i have a two week long spring break. Its hard to keep the commitment though. =) Im sure you'll burn away the five pounds.

My thought process on it all is kind of this: If I can gain five pounds in a week, I can lose five pounds in a week. Tally-ho!

On the bright side, you didn't gain 5 pounds of fat over one week. Seriously . To gain five pounds of fat you would have had to eat massive quantities of food. I'm not talking "eat to much"; I'm talking "OMG, I ate so much I feel like I'm going to throw up. Someone call dominos again". And even a week of that wouldn't net you at 5 pounds of fat gained.
Obviously you have a handle on the fact that it is mostly temporary weight gain, and that will naturally come down as you get back on your regular schedule for a few days. If you did REALLY overeat and gained a pound of real fat over the break, well you can deal with that. It's a setback, for sure, but don't let it get you down too much.

And consumed in a manner that your body actually had time to intake those calories, rather than just "pass" them through your system. Fiber up, and you'll probably notice a lot of those pounds disappearing.

Update, sucka foos!
I gained 5 pounds, but my mentality of "In a week I gain, in a week I lose" worked and then some.
I lost a pound atop of it. So, right now, according to the school scale... I weigh 201. I have never weighed that low on the school scale. -=flex=-
I may reach my goal of under 200 by the end of March after all. -=puts on Burning Heat!=-

You will find it very hard, if not impossible, to lose 18 pounds of fat in that time period. I have no doubt you can move the scale down 18 pounds. Take some laxatives and no doubt you'll find yourself with a few less pounds quickly. That is probably more or less what is happening if you can take off 18 pounds in two months - at least if you are lucky. If you are unlucky, you'll drop some muscle, which will slow down your metabolism and get you all set up to put on even more weight than you lost.
I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, but you might want to think through it a bit more before setting such high goals...

Well, a month consists of 4 weeks, and it's commonly been said that you can lose 2 lbs / week and be ok . . . that would put her at 16 lbs, which is close to her goal. Plus, any weight loss is better than where you started, right? I think it's an attainable goal . . . and even if you don't reach it, losing a few pounds is better than not losing any . . . or gaining!! I say you can do it!! Just do it the right way. BTW, don't ever take laxatives to lose weight. That's the worst idea I've ever heard. UJKitten

I was just doing the calculations in my head for a healthy amount of weight. Thats just an extra 1/4 lb of weight that will have to be lost during each week, in addition.
Yeah, laxatives arent fun.

and even if you don't reach it, losing a few pounds is better than not losing any Quoted for truth and emphasis. Weight loss goals are good. Strict timelines on weight loss goals aren't. It makes little difference in the grand scheme of things if you take 2 months or 4 months to reach a goal. Just as it makes little difference if you lose 10 lbs or 15 lbs by X date. The journey is important, not the speed or destination.

Yes, in theory you can lose a couple pounds of fat in a week. To do that consistently for several months in a row is very unlikely unless you are getting your nutrition and exercise exactly right.
I think abrannan hit it perfectly - don't obsess about time goals. Just work on making a little progress at a time. Maybe this week you'll lose a couple pounds. Maybe next week you'll gain a pound but notice your pants are a bit looser. Don't try to hard to make it happen too quickly. Maybe you want to do that for a couple weeks just to prove you can and give yourself some motivation to keep going. But after that, take a step back and relax.
As odd as that sounds, you can "try to hard" to lose weight and end up with exactly the wrong result. That's my life story. I lost over 100 pounds twice in my life, and now I am doing it for the 3rd time. (45 pounds into this try) Why? Because I was really dumb and tried to take shortcuts.
