Hello! I'm 16 years old, 5' something (havent measured in a while), and about 250 lbs. I have played DDR on occasion at a LAN Party I go to where they have a StepMania computer set up with some Red Octane hard pads. Ive been looking for a fun way to accually work hard at loosing the weight I have, and figured DDR would be a good place to start. So at the beginning of the week, I purchased a Red Ocatane Ignition pad w/ dense foam insert and the Red Octane USB adapter. I also set up StepMania on my webserver at my house with a all the DDR mixes and lots of custom anime ones. Is there anything else I should do to get started?

Is there anything else I should do to get started? Yep. Play the game, and commit to playing at least a song of two every day (more if you have the time/inclination). You need to build DDR into a habit, into something you need to do, something you look forward to doing. To maximize your results, you may also want to look at your diet and find small changes you can make there as well (drink more water, eat more vegetables, eat less/none fried foods, cut out soda/caffeine, etc). You don't need to go on a full-out diet, little changes can add up fast, and you're more likely to stick to little changes than to a full diet.

Just playing the game is a key factor. I've been having trouble with this myself, I keep telling myself that I'm going to play, but because I haven't made it a habit yet, I end up playing for a day or two, then stopping for a week. I remember when I used to play DDR every day at home, and spent hours at the arcade every friday, saturday, and sunday. Once you get in the habit you'll have no trouble finding time to squeeze some DDR in. One suggestion I would make for you diet, I don't know if you drink alot of pop or not, but switching to diet pop has helped my weightloss immensely.

I already bought a Red Octane Ignition, as stated above.
also i have seen alot more broken cobalt fluxes than i have red octanes
Edit: oh and i have already changed my diet. i cut alot of the extras out of my lunch and dinner as well as i have already switched to Diet Pop. Unfortunately, I still feel like i have to drink 1 mountain dew a day to keep my caffine headaches away. im going to try to cut that out too, though

Well, it really depends on how they are broken, because its not the easiest thing to clean.

You don't need a cobalt flux to lose weight. They can be a good investment if you're going to stick with the plan, but i wouldn't recommend them if you're not sure whether or not you'll stick with the plan.

Although I really like the CF pads, if you are just starting out, I would purchase one of the bundles that come with a decent soft pad. DDR is not everyone's cup of tea, and some people don't want to spend alot of money on it.

I'm not sure if you're saying you want to cut out diet pop, or if you're drinking one regular mountain dew a day, but just in case, they do make diet mountain dew, with just as much caffeine as the regular stuff.
