Exactly when does your metabolism become faster? Is your metabolism's speed directly linked to your heath? Aka, by losing weight, my metabolism speeds up?
More importantly, what are the benefits of having a fast-paced metabolism?
Also, what foods are suitable to eat in order to maintain a faster metabolism and loose weight while on Atkins?
Does your body adapt to the loss of carbs, thus making the Atkins strategy obsolete?
Well those were some questions that were jumping around my mind. Thank you in advance!

Exactly when does your metabolism become faster? Is your metabolism's speed directly linked to your heath? Aka, by losing weight, my metabolism speeds up? Your metabolism (the amount of calories you burn each day) is tied to your health in terms of your physical fitness level. So as you exercise more, your body will speed up your metabolic processes to help provide more energy to your muscles. Making more energy availalbe to your muscles in turn causes your body to use more calories. It becomes a self-feeding cycle, you exercise, so you burn more calories and your metabolism speeds up, which gives you more energy to exercise more, which burns more calories... A high metabolic rate means that you burn more calories per day, which helps you maintain a good weight, lose excess weight faster, give you more general energy, etc. Atkins itself alters your metabolic processes. Your body doesn't have the ready energy of simple carbs available, so it has to metabolize other available foods into energy. Which means your body has to work that much harder to provide energy for itself. In a no-carb state, your body has to work extremely hard to find ready energy, so you have to moderate Atkins a bit. Complex carbs, like vegetables and whole grains, ride the line nicely. No, but Atkins is a bit difficult to maintain long term, as you are asking a lot out of your body to process other foods for energy. You can try some of the other glycemic index based diets (South Beach) that will help you choose which carbs are good for you to eat. Hope I answered them, and if I didn't feel free to ask follow-ups.

Atkins diet is a bad idea if it causes you to eat too much meat. It raises your risk for heart disease and eating too much meat can actually make you gain weight in the long run. Which is why most vegetarians are at healthy weights. The reason I stopped eating too much meat is because my grandfather died from heart disease. I'm not trying to tell you to stop eating meat, but contrary to people say you can get all the protein and calcium you need in vegetables and nuts. Eating carbs is not a horrible thing if you keep active. So play DDR!

But remember, you can do a low- or controlled-carbohydrate diet and only eat lean meats and fish. I think a lot of people have a misconception that Atkins necessarily means all the bacon, steak, sausage, etc. and zero carbs. This just isn't true. And I wasn't eating lots and lots of meat, either. There were meals where I didn't have any meat at all. But I ate lots of veggies, too. And you gradually add back in carbohydrates. True, it will still be at a relatively low level, but they are there.
And like abrannan said, there are other controlled-carb diets out there that aren't as limiting as Atkins (e.g., Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, The Zone, South Beach, SugarBusters, Glycemic Index, Protein Power, etc., etc.). I should know, they are all sitting on my shelf!!

those are the kind of people that anger me the most. They can eat whatever the hell they want, and their metabolism is so high, they don't have to worry about gaining a pound. on them.

There are studies on those high-metabolism people (I am usually one of them but some meds affect metabolism - note to the ladies, some common meds many women take could make you gain weight).
"they" say that those people fidget more and move around more without thinking about it. I know I shake my legs under the table a lot less than I did a few years ago, and it used to be that I couldnt stay in one position more than 5 minutes reading a book.
part of it is also how much lean muscle mass you have, so do some weight training and you'll be able to eat more too!
