Hey everyone! I am getting a Playstation 2, DDR Max2, and a Redoctane ignition pad for Christmas...I am so excited!!! I am fifteen (and female) and I really wanted to get the home version of DDR because it looked like so much fun, but now that I found the get up and move site, I now know that I can lose weight while playing DDR too!^-^ I was just wondering which DDR version for Playstation 2 was the best for the workout mode? DDR Max, Max2 or Extreme? And what are the pros and cons of each version? I looked up my BMI index and it says i am in danger of being overwieght, and I really want to get some cool clothes for summer... I looked up the other threads on how much I need to play DDR to loose weight and I think it was 6 days a week for 30-45 minutes. Does anyone have any tips for keeping to that sheduale? I really think will be a great way to loose weight and have fun! Thanks for hearin me out^-^ *Also I am already working on the eating thing, I take my lunch to school cause the school lunches are really bad for you, and I never drink soda, only water and occaisionally milk. But I am really bad at resiting sweets!! I think that is my major weight downfall...

You are *or were* just like me except I'm 16. ^_^ Extreme is probably the best for workout mode, because once you set it up, it counts your calories every time, so unlike Max and Max 2, you don't have to go into workout mode everytime you play. It just automatically logs it for you. But Max and Max 2 are good mixes, and workout modes. As for the sweets dude I know how you feel. I love gummy bears and red hots. I'd die with out them. XD But, don't totally try not to eat any of them, just eat like one or two little candies a week. So that you aren't like eating 5 chocolate bars, but you aren't trying to totally stop eating it. I tried not to eat any hummies, but I keep splurging. So I just ate them once a week in small quantities, and it worked out for me. ^_^ I hope that this helps you. ^_^

I'm pretty new to this board but i'm not new to DDR, or the webstie so i think i could give you some advice.
Don't get discouraged, and practice, practice, practice. It's not as hard as it seems, set a goal and practice until you achieve.
Like, "Today i'm going to pass 'Kick the Can' on light mode for the first time.". Just keep working until you reach the goal and try not to let yourself down.
I know when i first started playing DDR i sucked so bad, and i got really discouraged and thought that i would never be able to do it right. Now, i play mostly on heavy mode, and i'm pretty mean on the keyboard with FFR. It's fun, and becomes addictive really easily.
Make sure you keep us posted on your goals, and progress.

Welcome to the boards!
It sounds like you've got a pretty good plan going there. As for which DDR is better for workout mode, it depends on how you structure your play sessions. If you just want to track calories while you play, and make a note of how much you did at the end of your session, then yes, Extreme is better for that, though it doesn't necessarily track calories across all game types. If you want to make sure you've done more work than a previous session, or want to set a goal of a particular calorie amount or game time, then the workout modes of the MAXes is a better fit. The issue I have with the MAX workout mode is that it's a separate mode that doesn't count for song unlocking.

Thank you everyone for your advice! I can't wait to get DDR for christmas! I am a little nervous though, about how good I will be since the first couple times I have tried it at my friends house I didn't do to well But I am willing to try my hardest to at least become proficent at standerd mode! Also, thank you kiara for your sweets advice, I have decided to take your advice for the school french fries that always so temptly next to me, and belong to a friend who dosn't mind sharing. We'll see how that goes, I really hope it works! *I also wanted to know, when you first start using DDR for excersise, is it better to workout with DDR and build up to longer playing times, like three days a week for 15 min each day and then the next week increase the playing time to 20min ect.? Or is it better to start at 3 days a week then work up to six with the same playing time (45-1 hour?)? I was just wondering which would be better, because I will also be just learning how to play DDR. So I have to play beginner mode for a while to learn what I am doing!

Everybody's bad when they start playing. Go through Lesson Mode (If the mix you get has it) and play on beginner mode. You're taking on a lot fo new skills all at once, so it'll take some time. At this early level it's farily difficult to overdo it, but I still wouldn't play for more than an hour at a stretch. Listen to your body and it will tell you if you're able to do 3 or 6 days in a week, or somewhere in between.

Thanks for the advice! ^-^ I just recieved my DDRmax2 game and a redoctane ignition pad for christmas, and I can't stop dancing! It is so much fun! ;D I know I have played for at least a solid block of and hour and I have completed all the lessons and have advaced to light mode in my first day. I was so suprised at how fast I am learning! Now I know why everyone says DDR is such a workout, at the end of 35 min I was sweating hard and I was starting to get tired, but I didn't even notice until I stoped after my first song in the game mode to get my rating. I think this will really get me up to excercise! ;D

I hate to brake it to you, but DDR is bad for you. You will only lose weight if you play with out brakes, plus DDR is bad for your joints.

I think ddr is only bad if you don't becareful of slips and twisting ur ankle. About the sweets thing... I dunno if everyone is the same but when I drink something with added sugar my body feels sluggush immediately and even though I like the taste I remind myself that sluggish feeling so I don't drink or eat anything with added sugar. A dessert once a day is okay though. You don't want to deprive urself of cravings. saying no to sugary stuff is like the devil tempting you to eat it.

High impact exercise has been known to build bone density. It might negatively affect your joints, but it's not all bad.

Hey! I'm a n00b to the boards and a novice at DDR. I got Ultramix, which is much much harder than any DDR I've played before, and I quickly got the hang of light mode. I was just wondering If it was possible to loose weight on light mode? Some of the songs are difficult, but I can't really tell if my heart rate is up enough.
Thankies :3

If you've sweating and finding it a dificult to talk, but not breathe, you're working hard enough. If you can find your pulse, count it for 10 seconds. It should be in the 23-27 range (for a 10 second count). That means you're working hard enough. And yes, it is possible on light mode.

Hi, I'm a n00b too. I've only played three times, but I loved it and ordered my own. Any day now... ^#^
So...I've ordered DDR Extreme. Mostly for fun but I also want to lose weight. I'm not PARTICULARLY overweight, but I've made a deal with my mom that involves me losing some weight...which I agree I could use.
So. I'm finally getting to the point. ^#^; How can I use DDR Extreme to its full weight-loss potential?

How can I use DDR Extreme to its full weight-loss potential? Read the threads here, for starters. Play 5-6 times/week for at least 30-45 minutes per day (does not have to be all at once). Get your heart rate up as I have described above.

I gotta agree completely with what Ash said. Playing DDR simply to lose the weight all the time isn't worth it. If you say to yourself "today is the day I pass Drop Out on Heavy" and don't stop until you do, you're gonna burn the kcals (cals, whatever, we've been through that before). To lose the weight stay with the diet and play daily. Getting to heavy definitely aids in losing the weight. Just stick with it is the biggest thing.

Yeah, the mentality I have is one of accomplishment.
I figure the more I accomplish game-wise, the more my body will accomplish.
All in all, remember, it's still a game.
