Hey, everyone! I'm new on these boards, been reading over some recent posts and I figured I would join. So here is my story: So I'm 17 and about 240 pounds ATM. I have tried some random dieting crap in the past (which never seemed to work ;D), and had some difficulty sticking to it. I only recently thought about using DDR as a weight loss tool, but it really does make sense. And because I am on the computer playing games most of the time anyways, I figured this would be an ideal solution (at least a starting point). So, I have a PSO but now DDR games for it or a mat.. also I can't seem to find any so I am assuming they are somewhat collector's items now. I managed to convince my mom that IT IS ACTUALLY POSSIBLE TO LOSE WIEGHT WHILE PLAYING A VIDEO GAME which believe me was HARD although I guess I can't blame her for that because it's video games that got me here in the first place rofl. Anyways, I will probably be getting a PS2 and a DDR/Dance Mat combo-type deal to start. Anyone have a suggestion for which game? A friend recommended MAX2 but he also said Extreme might be good tho he doesn't own it. Anyways nice to meet you all feel free to leave a comment if you like d**n that was a long post lmao. EDIT: sorry didn't know that swear words were filtered won't happen again ^_^;

For PS2 either Max2 or Extreme will be good. Extreme has some more recognizable songs on it, if that matters.
For PS1, try ebay and search for Konamix. You'll find a couple dozen listing for Konamix+soft mat for about $30.

Oh yeah also, i do not have any of the "next-gen" console yet so PS2 will be my first. Do you think it would be a better idea to get XBOX instead? Are the XBOX DDR games better/the same? Also, i was wondering to play games online with PS2 do you have to pay a fee like with XBOX live? Thanks

You can't play online with PS2, only Xbox. If that's important to you, get Xbox.

Not really important to me, but I just assumed thats why the new PS2 has a network adapter built into it,, why is it there?

Not really important to me, but I just assumed thats why the new PS2 has a network adapter built into it,, why is it there? For the other PS2 games that have online capability. Since there's no Xbox Live-like server farm for Sony games, if Sony wants a game to be online, someone has to set up and maintain a server farm for it. For less popular games like DDR, it's not a good financial move to do it. But for Xbox, they only have to pay a small amount for a little space in Microsoft's facility.

Oh well, doesn't even matter since every store in the city is sold out. And EB Games says there is some kind of "license problem".. >.> You'd think after 6 years they would have ironed all of THOSE out

As far as choosing between Xbox and PS2, I've been very hard on Xbox in the past. Since they released DDR-U2, however, I'm happy as a clam.
Ultramix 2 has tons of beginner songs with low foot ratings so that you can get started and learning pretty quickly. There is a training mode so you can learn (unlike the original Ultramix).
Xbox Live has a monthly fee, but I feel like it's totally worth it. I use it with other games, but playing online with other people is so much fun. You can talk to them with your headset and I feel less isolated.
Additionally, Sinistar and I have set up a workout morning on Thursday mornings at 7am Eastern (5am Mountain). If you want a workout partner, there are two online every week.
PS2 has a lot more games to choose from, though. Plus, they have other active games like Athens 2004, where you can use the Dance Pad to compete in running events. Then there's Eye Toy and that cool new karate game that uses Eye Toy from Sony. It's a hard choice to make.
