Hey everybody my name is BJ, and I was wondering if anybody could explain the south beach diet to me. What I really want to know is how to do it and what are some examples of stuff I can eat. Mainly I eat turkey and mayonaise sand., chicker, no beef, no pork, and thats about it.

I really recommend reading the book to get an understanding of this or any diet. There are certain details and nuances you can't really get just from a few sentences on a message board. That said, in a nutshell, SB is a good carb/bad carb, good fat/bad fat diet. You aren't restricting the number of carbs you eat, just choosing the right ones to eat. Same with fats. The diet steers you clear of anything with white sugar or white flour, and high simple carb foods like rice and potatoes. It also steers you clear of saturated fats and fatty meats, while ensuring you get enough good fats like olive oil and fish oils.
From your list, turkey and chicken are good, but white bread and mayo aren't. Whole wheat bread is okay in moderation. But things you may not think of, like tortilla chips, etc. aren't okay.
Like I said, give the book a read, check it out from your local library, or grab a coffee at a Barnes & Noble and sit down for a read.

You do restrict the carbs you eat for the first two weeks of the diet. Then you slowly add back in carbs. Alot of people never add back in some of the carbs they were eating before because they start to gain weight and hence its considered a low carb diet. Overall I feel its a decent diet and you dont have to do phase 1 to be successful. It stresses eating real foods, cutting back on sugars, etc. So this is all good. The bad is the use of aspartame. You can read a general overview at www.prevention.comthe plan is there too... Also reviews on amazon.com
