If you drink a lot of water before, during, and after you eat then if will make you feel a lot more full. The water gets absorbed into the food causing it to expand. And also its just better for you all in all.

Yes, that's true, I eat in order during EVERY meal, and I tend to eat vegetables first (mainly salad) then the cup of water, which should make you a bit more full, then the meat etc. 1. I do that to make me eat a bit less. 2. I do that to protect me from colon cancer, because the fiber makes a "barrier" around the other foods.

Actually drinking water does NOT make you feel full or fill you up according to studies done by Professor B. Rolls. BUT eating water rich foods like fruits, veggies and soups does. She has a whole book on it called Volumetrics. For example if you eat cookies with water..you are still eating a calorie dense food (the cookies) but if you eat veggies with water..you are eating a food that has few calories relative to the weight. So you will eat just as much if you are drinking water but you will eat less if you eat water rich foods. THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT WATER IS BAD..its not its GREAT. Just to say that water itself according to her studies has no effect on satiety. She did a lot of studies also.

Heres a quote from Dr. Rolls book Volumetrics "We're not sure where this idea originated (of drinking water to feel full) but it has been tested and found wanting. Controlled experiments have concluded that drinking water before a meal or drinking extra water with a meal has no effect on food intake.... The bottom line People eat the same amount at lunch or dinner whether they drink extra water or not."
Its one of those myths that has been around for years. In addition people who are in contests to see who can eat the most TRAIN by drinking lots of water.
So not saying water is bad..its not its GREAT!

Yeah but what about wheats and foods that absorb the water. Plus this is part of an article found here : www.arrowroot.com/articleweight.aspWater, Water, Water Water naturally suppresses appetite, and helps maintain a higher metabolic rate. In fact, water may be the most important catalyst for increased fat burning. Water increases the lover's main functions of detoxification and metabolism and allows the liver to metabolize more fats. For those concerned with fluid retention, high water intake actually decreases bloating, because it flushes out sodium and toxins. Expert dieters drink eight glasses of water a day. They know each pound of fat burned releases 22 ounces of water which must be flushed away along with the metabolic by-products of fat break-down. There are many other studies done on this as well. As far as water changing eating habits, that depends on the person.

Water changes my eating habits (and reduces nail biting!)... I don't feel fuller and I can't delay eating if i'm hungry, but I like to be doing something (chewing) with my mouth a lot of the time. Gum doesn't work because it does make me (personally) hungry, but water is something to entertain my mouth and its good for me besides.
A lot of people snack when they could just drink water. I never snack because of hunger, always because I want to chew on something. If you must have that chewing sensation, try air-popped popcorn (no oil, no butter. I like to spray on a tiny bit of Pam to make the popcorn sticky and then sprinkle on a little garlic salt or something).
Errr but this is a water thread. *cough*

gum makes me less hungry. I also feel the need to have something in my mouth. And I still bite my nails.

I wish chewing gum made me less hungry. To avoid nail biting i crochet but it only works when i don't read books or watch any tv whatsoever, or sit in front of a computer for more than 10 minutes...
or drive for more than an hour...
Err...
Water. Water, I think, might make me eat less, if I drink it throughout the whole day. And if i drink enough for that, then I'd be up every half hour. so whether or not drinking water makes you eat less, drinking water just to get rid of hunger will probably not make you a happy camper. Its hard to deal with being hungry a lot, but i think that the truth is its something you have to deal with a bit when trying to lose weight.

water does make you feel full... but the problem is that people dont eat slow. it takes you maybe about 20 minutes for your brain to say to you that youre full dont eat anymore.

I have been drinking tons and tons of water each day, and havent noticed a difference in my hunger, however I have noticed that im more energized and for some reason it motivates me to eat healthier. Junk food and water just don't go together.
