Hello, Ever since 3rd grade (I'm currently in 10th) I have been overweight. I went to the doctor today (I have strep throat ) and was suprised to see that I gained 20lbs over the summer and now weigh 230lbs (5'7".) I've been reading these forums lately and have been motivated by the success stories posted. So, while I was at the doctors I picked up Ultramix and the cheapest pad I could find (Mad Catx Beat Pad Pro.) I haven't started playing yet because I am ill, but I plan to play for 1-2 hours daily for the next 6 months. I want to surprise my Tennis coach in April by losing 50lbs. Any tips/advice to help me do this? I've already cut sodas COMPLETELY out of my diet, and have been drinking about 6 bottles of water a day. Thanks Mark

if your like me u really cant keep track of everything you do, schedules change your mood changes you dont wanna do the same thing everyday. like saying that your committed 2 hours a day 6 months with 8 glasses of water. I used to do that and it really did make a diff. since I didn't keep up with my plan. What worked for me though was a change of mind. stop thinking about food and sweets, hey have a treat if you exercised one day. Whenever you have spare time dont spend it watching tv do wieght's while watching tv or get on the pad! as for drinks I just tell myself water is fine either that or choc milk, it's alot better then pop. dont over due yourself with the pad after a week or two u might stop playing 2 hours a day cause the songs get really repetative. I hated ddr 6 after 6 months and same with the 7th mix I got bored with that after 5 months. Then I found stepmania So far i have 230 songs so i have lots of variety which keep's me ddrin everyday after work. Oh yeah routiens are also good. (just not with food or drinks ) If I think of food all i want is sweets, if I dont think of food I dont care for eating. Gum also helps if your hungry, pop a piece in your mouth and do something that keeps your mind off food. yeah that's all the advice i can give you. Just from past experience. working on it for 5 years now and finally found something that works for me lost 28-30 in the past year and few months. but also take into consideration i've grown muscle too which is heavier

I went from 230->170 in the last 6 months. It is definitely possible. I'm not the best example though, since I am completely obsessed and I did an evil Atkins diet for a month of it. Several others probably have much more insight on how you can reach your goals easier.
If you have read the forums, then you will know that it is little changes that make all of the difference. These little changes are less stressful than a complete lifestyle change (which is something you should slowly slip toward).
Welcome, and good luck!

Yeah, it's possible to lose 50 by April (tough, but possible). But you know what? Even if you don't reach that goal, you'll still have lost 40, 30, 35 lbs. I think what we lose sight of a lot of times is that you don't go from 230->180 overnight. We know it'll take a while to get there, but we don't realize that halfway there, we'll be 205. Just a little food for thought.
First off though, get over the Strep Throat (which sucks).
The best way to lose weight is an education. Do a little reading. Check out some books from the library on different diets, and look at how they work, and try to understand why they work. Look for somethign that you think you can live with as a change of lifestyle. I'm currently on South Beach, but I don't really notice it anymore. I've gotten to the point where the food choices are almost automatic for me. Sure, I "cheat" every now and then, but not enough to impact my diet.
Ultramix, huh? Check out the Xbox board here if you've got Live. Laura Moncur's been looking for a workout partner for the mornings. She's chock full of helpful suggestions and advice, too.

Thanks for all the advice.
I started playing today and I never knew DDR would be that addicting. I couldn't stop playing until I hit the 3 mile jogging mark (in workout mode)
I have one more question though.
In addition to the changes in my diet (eliminating all sodas and snacks containing lots of sugars and fats), should I take a multivitamin? My mom has one-a-day weight smart, would that help, and most importantly be safe?
Thanks

Oh yeah, forgot about the Strep. I had that twice (or more) a year every year when I was in elementary school. Then I just stopped getting it. I've been around people that have it, and I don't seem to be able to catch it anymore (of course I didn't try too hard). But I remember it was horrible every time that I got it. I hope medicine has advanced since then; used to take at least a week to feel better and no longer be a danger to others.

I have to take antibiotics twice a day for ten days, but after 4 doses ( two days) I am no longer contagious and can go back to school.

Ok ok new member woot woot. Great. But yeah ive been playing DDR for a good 3 months. Absolutley love it. Im so obssesed i play the darn thing for about a good 3 hours a day and maybe more on the weekends. Crazy yeah i know. But its all well worth it. Cut out sugars and sodas and weighed at 187 to 174 in those good 3 months. So for my own special present i bought for myself a nice new, Neo, Glowing, Metal, Wood, Dance PAd. Nice ass Hell. I practically have the arcade at home. I can play any mode. I play strictly heavy and challenge and standard when i need a break. Thinking of joining a tournament im so confident. But heres my advice for a lot of overweight people. NEVER GET BORED, WHEN YOUR BORED YOU EAT, YOU EAT BECAUSE YOUR BORED. ALWAYS BE DOING SOMETHING. CUT OUT SODA AND STRICTLY DRINK TEA, DIET COKE, AND WATER, AND ANYTHING THAT DOESNT HAVE LOTS OF SUGARS. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, PLAY DDR FOR FUN. DONT WORRY ABOUT LOSING YOUR WEIGHT, YOU WILL GO CRAZY TRYING TO PLAY AND PLANNING TO LOSE WEIGHT. PLAY FOR FUN AND THOSE POUNDS WILL SHED. LOOK AT ME, IM NOW A SUPERIOR CHICK MAGNET AT THE AMC 24 VETERANS MOVIE THEATRE NOW. Also let your hair grow out, chicks like bushy hair, just dont let it grow out of control. Hope this helps people, cuz it sure helped me. Also, ive heard rumors of Extreme being the last one. And ive heard ppl say that DDR X 2 is coming out someday. Someone please give me a straight answer. Thanx

Extreme will not be the last DDR released in the US. DDR UltraMix2 will be out for Xbox in November. Japan is getting DDR Festival next year, and it's likely that that willbe brought here as well. DDR sales keep increasing with each new release, so I'd expect they'll keep making them.

Although, about the "chick magnet" thing, that isn't my main reason for losing weight, it's more about being healthy is there is a history of diabetes in my family.

Also let your hair grow out, chicks like bushy hair, just dont let it grow out of control. <offtopic>That reminds me, I need a haircut. When I was heavier, I had the hippie hair because I thought my head looked small. I didn't like it, though, and I went with an undercut thingie. It is back out of control now. I wish I had time to get a haircut. Eh, I'll find the time eventually.</offtopic>

I know the Abercrombie and Fitch hair is really the thing right now, but I can assure you that there is a girl out there who likes your hair however it is right now. Some like it trimmed and neat and others like it long and wild.
When I was in high school, Flattops were really cool (hey! it was the eighties!). Mike (my husband) always had this curly mess of hair that was bushy and in his eyes. Even though it wasn't in style, I loved his hair. Now, his hairdo is all the rage and those guys with straight hair are wondering whether they dare to go to a beauty salon to get a perm.
I say, let your hair be what it will be. Find a style that YOU like and be confident with it. Confidence speaks louder than anything you can do to your appearance. It has been said that desperation is the worst cologne.

Looks like we're in the same boat. I need to lose about 40-50 pounds by next april too thats when my family I haven't seen in 2 years comes to visit . But I'm really doing this for myself not for them. What I'm trying to do now is replace all the crunchy junkfood with raw vegetables and replace all the candy with fresh fruit. I've started a calorie diary and its really a shocker to me how much I eat as opposed to how much I need. Im 5'5-5'6 so I really only need 1600 calories a day but I was eating 2500 @_@ The daily average need is about 2000 calories but your height and age change it a bit. www.calorieking.com is recommended by howstuffworks.com (you should read their article on weight loss its great.) My main problem is overeating so stuffing myself with a salad /fresh vegies or drinking a glass of water before I eat helps. Cucumbers are only like 14 calories for a cup serving of slices as opposed to the several hundred calories in like a sandwich lol..just make sure you are getting the proper nutrients and don't starve yourself or your metabolism will drop. Edit: One more thing. Don't try to start off with 1-2 hours a day right away especially if you've been sick. I started off with 15 mins every other day now im at like 20-25 mins a day before I start getting tired. Also as someone suggested I do, break it up over the day, 15 mins here 15 mins there, it will help you to not get discouraged.

I know that! I want my hair to look cool to me, though! It should at least accomplish that. ;D
