Try cutting back on what you are eating by 1/3 and eat foods that are not processed. In other words reach for foods that grow on trees and in the ground , but that arent fakey..like dont reach for a twinkie..but grab an apple instead. Foods that dont go bad are usually bad for you. Read labels and try not to eat food with high fructose corn syrup in it. Buy whole grain breads. Drink water and avoid fake sodas and if you are going to drink juice..just a little as its high sugar. If you cut back what you are eating..and exercise you will lose weight. DONT DEPRIVE YOURSELF..if you want chocolate eat some just eat really good chocolate and not a lot.

You can set an appointment with a nutritionist. Your local university can usually refer you to someone who is reputable. Keep a food diary for a week before you see the specialist so they can see what you need to improve and what you are already doing right.
I like Weight Watchers. They are really good at dealing with the emotional side of overeating. If you are stuffing down your feelings with food, it might be a good idea to just jump right in with both feet and join it. I've found it to be incredibly helpful.

Weight Watchers can be good except sometimes you are encouraged to eat the lowest POINT food (at WW you count points) and those may not be the healthiest.. You could eat all your points in crapola...and not good, nutritrious food. So if you decide to try it ..make sure you make wise choices. Sadly many people I know who have tried it gain the weight back because they are not making permanent lifestyle changes they eat the lowest points food and then find that they feel deprived or they just get sick of counting points. So thats why I think moderating your current diet can be more successful LONG TERM. But of course everyone is different.
I bought WW ice cream once..I threw it out it was so awful..and the next day it was still sitting in the sink! Its so fake. However the food company is no longer owned by WW

Actually, the new Weight Watchers plan has tossed the points system out the window.

I think you're talking about the Core Plan, abrannan. Right now, they have two plans that you can choose to follow. You can even change between them from week to week. There is the Flex Points Plan that I have used and lost all my weight with. It's really great for rule-followers like myself. You get a certain amount of points every day that you HAVE to eat to keep your metabolism up. There are additional points (flex) that you may eat or not. I eat them all and I still lose weight. If I don't eat them all, my weight stagnates, so I eat all my Flex points. There is the new Core Plan that allows you to eat all you need to feel satisfied from a core list of foods. The key point to that plan is eating ALL YOU NEED TO FEEL SATISFIED. I've always had trouble with bingeing, so I'm reluctant to let myself have that kind of freedom, but it has done wonders with other people in my class. There are some people that absolutely love it. I talk more about this on my weblog: laura.moncur.org/archives/2004/09/04/weight-watchers-core-food-list/Both plans are still part of Weight Watchers. I have never tried the Core Plan. I figure I might try it for a week if my weight loss stagnates to give my metabolism a kick start. My weight loss has been pretty steady on the Flex Plan since I've started, so I may never need to try it.

Laura, that is interesting..in other words on the Core Plan they would have say veggies..but perhaps twinkies would not be on there so someone could have as many veggies as they wanted but not twinkies? And on the flex plan if they wanted a twinkie now and then they could indulge? Is that correct?
I do think the WW plan is really helpful if people do it right and dont spend all their points on junk.
Did you hear about the WENDIE plan Laura. One woman was having trouble (had reached a point where she wasnt losing) so she developed the Wendie plan for weight watchers where she would vary her points one day to the next to really keep her metabolism surprised. Also I am sure you are familiar with dottisweightlosszone..great info!

Yeah, I love Dottie's Weight Loss Zone. That's where I downloaded all the points for restaurants for my Palm. It's so easy to follow the points plan if you have the points for restaurants. Mike and I eat out a lot and I always am able to find the healthy choices wherever we go because of Dottie. www.dwlz.com/
