Well I 've been playing DDR on and off for a while, but never took it on myself to use it as a weight loss tool. I"m 320 lbs.. now don't get me wrong, I'm a strong boy, and I do sports like full contact armoured fighting (SCA) and I'm a cook at a pub (8hrs on the feet moving all the time) The problem with me is.. free food at the pub.. doesn't add to losing weight , though it keeps my pocket book from going dry as well. I'm going to add a daily DDR workout to see how that helps.. maybe do a week of one Mix at a time. Any suggestions for a new comer for how I should start out?
Thanks

What I did while I was losing weight (35 lbs and still going!) was when I would get a free meal at work, I would box up half of it right away. If I didn't see it on my plate, then I wouldn't eat it. It worked out fairly well, I think. As far as the DDR goes, I like non-stop. Do a few non-stop sets each day and you'll be golden...or at least slimmer.

I hear that it could be bad for me, but I usually play anywhere from 2-10 hrs a day on Standard. I like to just start on the first song and just go through all of them, plenty of times. I'll have some hard ones to face (Challenge Songs) and MaxX Unlimited, but as long as you try you're still getting a great work out. That's what I do...

You play 10 hours a day? No job or school?

I just can't believe that anyone can keep up that much DDR at that intensity level day in and day out, and still have knees. But then again, I'm an old fogie. Zerph, just work up a good sweat playing DDR and play for about 30-45 minutes after that per day, and you'll be good.

Liebiemmer's suggestion is GREAT! Just cut back by 1/3 what is on your plate.. And to box it right away helps. Also eat unprocessed foods etc. As far as the exercise..I am on beginner, or light and I am used to exercising but not ready to progress.. SO I just do it for 1-2 hours and I use my whole body..ie I raise my hands, twist my torso etc as I do it. I get a very good workout..though not as intense as if I was on another level...but this is right for me now Somehow I just dont picture me ever getting that good at this! But I am working on it.

I'm currently unemployed, and have no school during summer. I usually wake up at about 12ish and generally play until 5 or 6, sometimes later. I use to play football as a linemen, so am kind of use to painful workouts with my legs so thats why I can just go and go...

Orangina-- DDR has a VERY steep learning curve. You'll get better if you keep up with it. Eventually, you'll wonder why you were having so much trouble in the first place!

I go to work for 8 hours come home play about 15-20 songs and eat twice a day. (on the weekends I pig out) oh and i drink tons of water. i'm also
18 yrs old can curl 25 pounds each hand(3 sets 8 times) 166 pounds (Got DDR last July when i was 186)
but yeah i just started this routine 2 weeks ago and it's been working great. Been trying to lose this weight for 3 years now, and finally figured out that you have to change your lifestyle in order to lose wieght.

Yes, remember it's almost always easier to cut a few (say, 200) calories out of your diet than to burn 200 extra calories through exercise.
