Hi there, I'm John. I've been lurking around unregistered for a little while now waiting until I could get my grubby hands on a used PS2, a copy of DDRMAX2, and a dance pad. Well, that day came on Monday.
I love DDR for two reasons: It's fun, it will help me lose weight. Now then, I'm wondering how much weight I need to lose and how fast I need to do it. Today so far I've worked out 3 times, burning around 250 calories each time.
I'm about 5'7 or 5'8 and am wanting to get to my correct body weight, which I don't know what it is, in the next 6 months or so. I'm currently at about 220 lbs. I've decided to stop drinking pop altogether, the only other thing besides water I'm drinking is crystal light iced tea, which is around 5 calories/glass. I'm also working on finding more low fat foods and stuff. I've also decided to severely cut down on the sweets. The sweetest thing I've had today was about 5 minutes ago when I had a bowl of frozen grapes. I've also cut my general food intake down, and have decided to abandon fast food altogether.
Anyway tho, I'm rambling. I'm 16, overweight by I'm guessing around 70 or so pounds, and need to know the correct calorie burnage so I don't hurt myself. I've been drinking plenty of water.
I'm sorry that this post is all disorganized, but I'm just wanting to know if I'm doing the right thing or not.
Thanks, John

You're doing fine. I wouldn't worry about the calorie count given by the game so much. It's inaccurate at best. Pay more attention to getting your heart rate up (19-23 beats in a 10 second count) and keeping it there for at least 30-45 minutes per day. Do that, and the workout calories will take care of themselves.
I'm 5'7" like you, and you're just about right. 150 lbs is the high end target weight. But I would also say not to worry about the pounds so much. Worry more about how you feel, and how you feel you look. If you want a number to watch, watch your body fat percentage (You can buy calipers to measure BF% online for about $20). Remember, according to the scale, Michael Jordan is overweight.

Hey, I'm 5'8 and was 230lbs only 2 months ago. What I've done is basically cut down sugars by a lot and am eating more salads. Pretty much anything I drink starts with "Diet" or is water. I play at least an hour of DDR daily and try to do an hour of biking (which tends to become more DDR ) Since May 1st I'm down 27lbs. I think you're definately on the right track Good luck!
